Jounce formed in the small, suburban town of Wyckoff, NJ, technically 17 miles from Manhattan but really light years away. There, four childhood friends spent their days jamming in basements, parties and local bars, or wherever people would listen. Upon release from college in Spring of 2004, Jounce relocated to a somewhat secluded property bordered by the Holyoke State Forest in Amherst, MA. They converted an old shed (it was a big shed) to serve as their rehearsal space and traveled extensively, playing hundreds of shows and sharing bills with influences like the Benevento Russo Duo, The Flaming Lips, ulu and the Slip. After several years, the band returned home to the New York area where they eventually landed in Manhattan's Lower East Side. In April of 2006, Syracuse University was the place where they would lay down the foundation for a new album with keyboardist Adam Gold. Working with longtime friend and soundman Marco Centola, the band turned out eight tracks that would then be mixed back in New York by Centola and mastered by Grammy nominated engineer Alan Silverman (The Kinks, Cheap Trick, Norah Jones).The self-titled album was released on June 29th, 2006, followed by an east coast tour and New York shows at BB Kings, The Mercury Lounge and Mexicali Blues. The opening song "You Tell Me" garnered 3rd place in Relix Magazine's Winter 2006 Jamoff Competition out of over 500 submissions.2007 finds the band continuing to tour and write new music. "By 11:15, when Jounce made their way to the performance floor, Plan B was so packed that they barely had room for their amps and pedals. With the aid of the events staff, they got the room they needed, warmed up, and following a moving intro by Alex, they began playing one of the most up-close-and-personal sets of there young yet experienced careers. They careened in and out of funked up jam sessions and memorable rock riffs to elevate the already amped crowd to an all-new high. At this point I was working the door and watched as previously unaware passer-bys got sucked in and gladly donated 5-bucks to rock out with Jounce and NYCUG!"-Nycug.com"Jounce shows are a full-body experience, felt as easily as they are heard. Although that doesn’t necessarily describe Angel and the Love Mongers’ sound it certainly shows how difficult it can be to characterize this band’s unique and oppositional approach to music. Hailing from Knoxville, TN, Angel and the Love Mongers was formed in the spring of 2004 by singer/guitarist Angel Zuniga and drummer/engineer Eric Nowinski. Angel and Eric were drawn together to form a band due in part to their diverse approach to music. Angel, who takes many of his musical cues from alternative dance bands of the 80’s such as Depeche Mode and Erasure, was a former actor and model who confesses to have spent his formative years in front of a mirror practicing his dance moves instead of playing air guitar. On the other hand, Eric, who cut his teeth on The Beatles and spent his youth playing air guitar to Queen and R.E.M. recently gave up his career as a trial lawyer to pursue music. At first glance, this would appear to be a mismatch of cosmic proportions. However, the diametrically opposed approach to their music is one of the things that separate Angel and the Love Mongers from the cookie cutter bands that are commonplace today.Angel and the Love Mongers first album was a collection of 11 catchy alternative/pop songs produced by Don Coffey, Jr., of Superdrag fame. The album received critical acclaim and was a mainstay on college radio stations throughout the country.
