| | Patrick Park Everyone's In Everyone CD Patrick Park Discography of CDs
The previous albums by Colorado-born, Los Angeles-based neo-folkie singer/songwriter Patrick Park have been promising but spotty, but coming nearly four years after 2003's Loneliness Knows My Name, the far more self-assured Everyone's in Everyone is a big step forward. Opening with the immediately engaging solo voice and guitar tune "Life Is a Song," Everyone's in Everyone moves from strength to strength. Highlights include the genuinely great "Here We Are," a propulsive country-rocker in the vintage '70s Laurel Canyon style that features a strong, memorable chorus, and the moodier, mysterious "Saint with a Fever," which mines territory closer to vintage Richard Thompson. There isn't a single duff track on this concise 11-song album, which seems destined to put Park alongside Josh Ritter and Josh Rouse in the top tier of American folk-rock singer/songwriters. ~ Stewart Mason

| | Faith Hill Joy To The World CD (2008)
Everyone's In Everyone CD music
$11.69 The marketing department at Warner Brothers must have really wanted to get a jump on the holiday season when they released Faith Hill's 2008 Christmas album, JOY TO THE WORLD, in September. Hill's set of carols and traditional songs may not suit the late summer, but that doesn't make JOY TO THE WORLD any less of a treat. As albums like BREATHE and FIREFLIES proved, Hill has no problem crossing over to mainstream audiences, and this Christmas set (the singer's first) should strengthen that appeal. If the song selection itself isn't surprising--including the usual fare like "What Child is This," "O Come All Ye Faithful," and "Silent Night"--the arrangements are. A large orchestra, featuring brass, strings, reeds, percussion, and two different choirs, give these renditions a full, sweeping flavor reminiscent of the big bands of the 1940s and `50s. The album also includes an original single, "A Baby ...
| | Hank Williams Revealed: The Unreleased Recordings CDs (2009) DGBK
Everyone's In Everyone music CDs
$30.54 1951 was a breakthrough year for Hank Williams. He had a string of moderate country hits already under his belt, but the release that year of his version of an old jazz age novelty tune called "Lovesick Blues" suddenly made him a big star. It also meant his touring schedule increased, but he still found time that year to slip into Nashville and prerecord shows for the Mother's Best Flour Company. These good-natured and intimate performances were cut to acetate discs and then played over the air on Nashville's WSM radio station. Brittle, disposable, and made for only a few plays, these acetates were then shelved and forgotten until they were literally rescued from the trash in the '70s by an alert WSM employee. In all, 72 of these shows survived, containing some 143 songs, and this three-disc set is the second installment in Time Life's CD preservation of this amazing treasure trove. The performances are intimate and relaxed, and Williams tackles an amazingly varied set list, singing old mountain ballads, hymns, cowboy tunes, and delivers recitations of parlor poems and other various cautionary tales as well. What emerges is a full, rounded portrait of Williams at his creative and commercial peak. "Lovesick Blues" is here, along with fine versions of "I Can't Help ...

Everyone's In Everyone songs
$5.25 Christmas music releases have become a country music tradition, but the result is often generic mushy background instrumentation on the same moldy standards. Guilty of this is Vince Gill, whose Let There Be Peace on Earth is as cliche-ridden as they come. ~ Roch Parisien

| | Ol' Paint CD (1971)
Everyone's In Everyone CD music
$14.09 Ol' Paint's first and only album, released in 1971, suggests what might have happened if a tuneful country-rock band had heard Big Star's #1 Record and decided to try something similar. Of course, clever pop enthusiasts will recall that Big Star's debut didn't arrive until 1972, and while the utter obscurity of this album would make it unlikely that Alex Chilton and company took any cues from Ol' Paint, at the very least the two bands sound like kindred spirits of smart pop in an era when such things were in short supply. Ol' Paint had a pair of fine tunesmiths in lead vocalist Tony Caputo and guitarist Andy Mendelson, and both bring some fine melodies and full-bodied melodic hooks to the table, but unfortunately neither was an especially compelling lyricist (the pretentious "Victims of the Sex Revolution" is a cringe-worthy low point), and while Big Star clearly took their cues from the Beatles, there are a few moments on Ol' Paint where it's hard not to feel they'd been listening to more Emitt Rhodes than Paul McCartney (not a bad thing ...
