Gentleman's Hurricane album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's come to pass. The group's second release for Roadrunner, whose title apparently refers to "coming full circle" rather than any sort of goodbye, finds the latest iteration of Megadeth-- ...

| | Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow CD (1975) Remastered
Gentleman's Hurricane album
$6.49 After British maestro guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1974, he recruited Purple Records signees Elf as his backing band. And although Rainbow's 1975 debut was only a hint of future greatness, the album more than holds its own.
Elf was led by dramatic metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who seemed to connect with Blackmore in quite a chemical fashion. "Man on the Silver Mountain" is prime material, as is the six-minute blues-metal classic "Catch the Rainbow." Dio's shining vocals, shown to great effect here, have been emulated by hard ...
| | Tesla Mechanical Resonance CD (1986)
Gentleman's Hurricane CD music
$7.65 Tesla was a bit of an anomaly on the '80s scene. While making concessions to the Sunset Strip mentality of the era (song titles littered with slang, tracks laced with thinly veiled euphemisms), the music itself holds a great deal more in common with rough-and-tumble hard rock than with watered-down glam. The record's greatest assets are vocalist Jeff Keith, who combines an authentic blues delivery with competent melodic range, and guitarist Keith Hannon, who supplies ample electricity amid the four-measure riffing without devolving into showy, soulless solos. There ...
| | Butthole Surfers Locust Abortion Technician CD (1987)
Gentleman's Hurricane music CDs
$11.99 Although the Surfers aren't afraid to offer up a fairly straightforward punk song (the rocked-out "Human Cannonball" hints at their future accessibility), these mad sonic scientists seem most comfortable making listeners uncomfortable, as on the closing "22 Going on 23," which happily and intrepidly pushes the limits of offensive subject matter. Though some Surfers diehards (particularly those frightened by this record's surely Gacy-inspired clown face cover) favor the group's earlier work, most fans will attest to the bizarre majesty of LOCUST ABORTION TECHNICIAN.
Although the Surfers aren't afraid to offer up a fairly straightforward punk song (the rocked-out "Human Cannonball" hints at their future accessibility), these mad sonic scientists ...
| | Tracy Chapman Let It Rain CD (2002) Bonus CD
Gentleman's Hurricane songs
$23.25 Tracey Chapman's sixth album continues her tradition of immaculately crafted, self-effacing, deceptively low-key songs that consistently get to the root of things. That the most commercial track here ("Say Hallelujah") is about a funeral speaks volumes about Chapman's songwriting approach. "The bucket is kicked/The body is gone" she sings prosaically; "Eternal rest for the weary/Mourners party tonight." It's a catchy song that manages to retain its optimism despite its mortal subject.
With LET IT RAIN Chapman seems to be settling in to an acceptance of her cult status after her initial success with "Fast Car" and the later "Give Me One Reason." This is high-quality songwriting in a natural setting. There are few flashy production tricks save a vocal effect ...

| | Pitbull Daycare You, Me And The Devil Make Three CD (2006)
Gentleman's Hurricane music CDs
$10.65 Texas-based PITBULL DAYCARE is unique indeed. They combine the hard, aggressive beats of modern industrial music and some inspired electronica sampling with a ferocious guitar attack that is unrivaled in today's metal scene-think NINE INCH NAILS meets the SEX PISTOLS. PITBULL DAYCARE is nothing short of a true experimental band on the edge of a technological age, exploring imagery both vivid and immediate while offering many different shades of color on a single digital landscape. "PITBULL DAYCARE's music is nothing less than an innovator's masterpiece," says G.E. Sierra of CD Now. What makes their sound stand apart from the many other industrial/electronica bands is that they get true human emotion and aggressive energy into the cold hard styling of their electro/guitar heavy music. "Our sound...white trash industrial punk" exclaims lead singer Bishop. Formed in 1997, PBDC's debut album SixSixSex, released on M.I.A. Records, showcased the power and emotion unleashed in their music. Newly signed to Cleopatra Records, the band's latest release UNCLEAN, a CD/DVD package, was produced by Fred Coury of CINDERELLA. The album contains their signature style with songs like "Slam" and "Feel So Dead" while adding a few new tricks such as the title track "Unclean," which features rapper/activist KRS ONE, as well as a remake of the REM classic "It's The End Of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." With these songs, this hard working band is destined to be catapulted into the limelight! Their fans are rabid, ...
| | Blut Aus Nord Mort CD (2006)
Gentleman's Hurricane songs
$14.05 When fans of extreme metal hear the word "complexity" in connection with black metal, many of them immediately think of symphonic black metal; they think of the bands that have expanded black metal's horizons by combining it with power metal and even progressive rock. But Mort, like previous Blut Aus Nord releases, brings complexity and nuance to black metal without having anything to do with symphonic black metal -- and while a symphonic black metal band might claim Queensr˙che, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as influences (along with Dimmu Borgir and Emperor), this French outfit gets a lot of inspiration from industrial and goth rock. The non-black metal influences that have served Blut Aus Nord well in the past -- influences ranging from Godflesh and Killing Joke to the Sisters of Mercy to Neurosis -- continue to serve ...
