Alejandro Fernandez built a huge, loyal following in both North America and his native Mexico throughout the 1990s and 2000s singing mariachi tunes and ballads in a traditional style. VIENTO A FAVOR (2007) offers more stirring performances from the singer. The disc has a Latin pop edge, but the old-school, romantic vibe is still here in full effect.

Released in conjunction with the 2007 film EL CANTANTE, the bio-pic of the legendary salsa singer Hector Lavoe, this soundtrack is a grand and fitting tribute to the "Cantante de los Cantantes" ("singer of singers"). Marc Anthony's rich, expressive, and nuanced voice is up to the task of recreating Lavoe's charismatic performances. He shines on Lavoe's signature tune "El Cantante," the haunting, Santeria-based "Aguanile," the completely infectious "Che Che Cole," and the soundtrack's bouncy single, "Mi Gente." Jennifer Lopez (Marc Anthony's film co-star and real-life wife) sings the sultry, Nelly Furtado-penned "Toma De Mi."
