Indie-rock duo the Honorary Title make their major-label debut with their third album, SCREAM AND LIGHT UP THE SKY. With more of a full-band sound than their indie recordings, courtesy of big-name producer Rob Schnapf (Beck), Jarrod Gorbel and Aaron Kamstra open up their previous bare-bones blend of folk and emo-tinged indie rock into a sound that's closer to a more aggressive version of the Shins or the Decemberists. Highlights include the snarky first single "Untouched and Intact."
Audio Mixers: Doug Boehm; Chris Lord-Alge; Rob Schnapf.
Recording information: Bomb Shelter Studios, Los Angeles, CA; Pulse Recording, Silverlake, CA; Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA.
The Honorary Title: Jarrod Gobel (guitar); Jon Wiley, Adam Boyd, Aaron Kamstra.
Personnel: Jarrod Gorbel (vocals, guitar); Jon Wiley (guitar, keyboards, background vocals); Aaron Kamstra (piano, background vocals); Adam Boyd (drums, percussion, background vocals); Butch Walker (percussion, background vocals).
Rolling Stone (p.72) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[Gorbel] still has his strikingly gorgeous voice in his arsenal..." Entertainment Weekly (p.82) - "[They] leap fearlessly from folksy strumming to Strokes-y pop-punk..." -- Grade: B+ Scream & Light Up The Sky Music | List Price | $13.98 (You save $1.79) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Alternative CDs, Rock | | Label | Reprise | | Orig Year | 2007 | | All Time Sales Rank | 83334 | | CD Universe Part number | 7484347 | | Catalog number | 139004 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Aug 28, 2007 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Butch Walker; Rob Schnapf; Rob Schnaf; Butch Walker (Compilation) | | Engineer | Doug Boehm; Karl Egsieker; Doug Boehm | | Recording Time | 47 minutes | | Personnel | Butch Walker - percussion, background vocals Aaron Kamstra - piano, background vocals Adam Boyd - drums, percussion, background vocals Jarrod Gorbel - guitar Jon Wiley - guitar, keyboards, background vocals

Scream & Light Up The Sky
$17.09 After living on a boat as a child, Ben Edom won an art competition at age 11 and bought his first guitar. He played Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical and Contemporary as well as Scottish and Irish Folk music, in bands and solo, taking him from Scotland to Europe, the USA and Australia. He now delights in focusing on Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar, (both steel and nylon string) on which he has developed an infectious and exciting repetoire incorporating a wide spectrum of Celtic, Jazz, Classical and Contemporary styles. Always finding and developing the mood and essence of a tune, from soulful and ancient Gaelic Airs to the driving rythms that make guitar mastery a joy to hear, his deep love of music shines through, blending passion, beauty, pride and humour in every note.A decade in Australia playing with some of Queensland's best fiddlers, pipers, dulcimer players and harpers including singer/harper Debra Carey, put him in great demand for recording and performing at venues as diverse as Irish pubs, exclusive weddings at 5-star resorts and musical theatre to the Woodford International Folk Festival. Ben and Debra's band Celtic Soul ...

$5.95 Released ten years after Hall & Oates' heyday and seven after Daryl Hall's last solo venture, 3 Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, Soul Alone finds Hall on unsure ground. It had been only three years since he had seen the upper reaches of the charts, yet it felt like much more time had passed since he had truly reigned over mainstream pop/rock. From the sounds of Soul Alone, he longed for those days, but not as much as longed for his youth ...

| | Steve Guyger Radio Blues CD (2008)
Scream & Light Up The Sky
$13.79 In the 21st century, there are some electric blues albums that aim for a classic "Chess Records in the 1950s and 1960s" type of approach but just don't get it right; a lot of the grit is missing -- perhaps in the vocals, perhaps in the musicianship, perhaps in the production. But that isn't a problem at all on Steve Guyger's Radio Blues, a 2008 release that manages to capture the spirit of electric Chicago blues as it existed on the Chess label 40 and 50 years earlier. Drawing on influences ...
