Casual observers might have lost track of German metal crossover kings the Scorpions after their 1980s heyday, but the faithful know that the band has been holding steady throughout the decades. Their metallic crunch has been leavened somewhat over the years; HUMANITY: HOUR 1finds the Teutonic terrors collaborating with mainstream pop hitmakers Desmond Child and Eric Bazilian, and laying on the big pop choruses. For all the lighters-aloft power balladry and acoustic guitar reveries, though, the Scorpions still wield the same unerring knack for a gargantuan riff and an inescapable hook. Those with a passion for the more melodic side of '80s metal should feel right at home here.

Humanity Hour 1 CD

Scorpions: Klaus Meine (vocals); Rudolf Schenker, Matthias Jabs (guitar); Paul Maciwoda (bass guitar); James Kottak (drums).

5 stars Evocative, Profound Scorpions, Does not Disappoint!
Ahhh, another amazing, and yes sublime, work of art from Scorpions. Awesome visceral, driving guitars, lucid rhythm and of course divinely inspired vocals... buy it and a copy for anyone you know needing dark-and-light inspiration. Hard rock still relevant to the younguns, but also note the "message" of the album, akin to German-born Eckhart Tolle's spiritual teachings. Tolle like Scorpions says of "Humanity: evolve or die!"

3 stars Even tamed, Scorpions are catchy
My expectations were high for this album after Scorpions' 2004 Unbreakable CD revived some of the earlier zest of the band that had been missing for over a decade. However, this album oroves to be another obvious attempt by Scorpions to mainstream their music to the present trends in rock music. One thing this album really does well is accentuate how horribly eroded rock music has become from a creative perspective. The dynamic melodies, crisp and soaring solos, and clever, artful rhythms that once made rock music unique are virtually gone these days. While Scorps can be saluted for breaking molds and not simply cranking a machine, the end result leaves a lot to be desired. For their long-time fans who remember the days when inventive licks and riffs, bristling guitar work, and invigorating rhythms punctuated every song, the bland vanilla taste of this production is a little hard to swallow. Rudy's monotonous classic style, Matthias' muted and notably tame leads, and Klaus' reserved, though still powerful, lyrical dynamics combine to make most of the tracks simply mundane. There are a few exceptions, but even these songs lack the spice a more expressive approach might have given them. The Game of Life is one track that features good lyrics, a nice driving rhythm, and a few adventurous guitar licks. 321 features some nice rhythm and a rocking chorus, although opportunities for good licks are missed here as well. While the lyrics are a bit of a cliche' at times and the song begs for some standout riffs and a dynamic guitar solo, Love Will Keep Us Alive is nevertheless worth the CD price by itself. This is a superb melody and Klaus' lyrical delivery is precise and entrancing. I haven't heard anything this catchy from Scorpions since Wind of Change and Still Lovin' You. In sum, although a big letdown from Unbreakable in 2004, this CD still has some nice songs. I don't think it's ever going to be generally regarded as one of Scorpions' best efforts, though.

4 stars Fresh yet classic!
I bought this a few months ago and have really not stopped listening to it. My tween and teen like it too. Klaus Meine sounds great and the songs are all well crafted. Lots of hooks and tasteful licks. Very recognizable as Scorpions but yet with a modern production sound."321" and "Love will keep us alive" would be big radio hits if radio wasn't so narrow and gave older bands airplay of new songs. But the good news is we don't need radio anymore! Buy the CD and you won't be disappointed.

Most bands begin with an idea, but THIS FIRES EMBRACE began with a gunshot. On December 8, 2004, Aaron Benner, lead singer of well known central Ohio band Liquid6Teen, was stage right at a Columbus concert venue called the AlRosaVilla when a crazed gunman rushed the stage and began firing. When it was all over, five people were dead including famous Pantera guitar player Dimebag Darrel Abbott. The Lord used this tragic event as a catalyst to a life altering change in Aaron. After months of soul-searching, Aaron felt the Lord's calling on his life. Aaron was compelled to use his musical talents as a ministry. He left Liquid6Teen at the pinnacle of their popularity and began praying for the Lord to send him Christian musicians that shared his calling. Just a few months later those prayers were answered in the form of Marc Leist, Josh Hall, Zack Koah, and Steve Malone. This five member team then became THIS FIRES EMBRACE.Since the forming of THIS FIRES EMBRACE in late 2005, the Lord has truly blessed their ministry. In their first 2 years of performing, they've headlined and filled nearly every venue in the central Ohio area. They've traveled the region sharing the stage with National Acts such as Pillar, Decypher Down, Shinedown, Trapt, Bobaflex, Spoken, ...
