(3 Customer Reviews)
2007 two CD holiday collection from the Country Music titan. Twelve years ago when Toby Keith released his first holiday album, he was in the midst of breakthrough success as an artist. Two years and two CD releases into his career, he had already sold one and a half million copies and amassed a string of chart topping singles. For many artists that might have been an entire career. Jump forward to the present Toby Keith is one of the most powerful artists of any genre. He has sold 30 million CDs, topped the country chart 23 times and received countless songwriting and industry achievement awards, including his recent 50 Million Spins Award from BMI. He has expanded his career to include acting and films, soundtracks, restaurants and even his own record label. Universal.
Unlike many Christmas albums, which are slightly awkward mixes of new material, old novelty tunes, and solemn hymns, Toby Keith smartly avoids the first and separates the others. A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS is a specially priced two-disc set whose 20 tracks could easily have fit on a single CD, but Keith divides the discs into two different styles. Disc one consists of all the traditional Christmas pop tunes, such as "Frosty the Snowman" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," while the second disc consists of reverent versions of hymns and sacred material.
Personnel: Randy Scruggs (acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, bouzouki); Biff Watson (acoustic guitar); Rob Ickes (dobro); Jonathan Yudkin (celtic harp, violin, viola, cello, xylophone, bass guitar); John Hobbs (keyboards); Dave Pomeroy (bass guitar); Chad Cromwell (drums, percussion); Mica Roberts, Harry Stinson, John Wesley Ryles, Lisa Cochran (background vocals).

$13.59 With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, ...

$6.69 Hey, my buddy and co-writer friend, Mark Gurley has released his CD "Salinas Blues" and has posted it on CD Baby. I've got two songs on his CD - "Cool Guys,"( also on my CD "Testing the Water,") and a new, very nice tune, "Julie, Let Your Hair Down." Go have a listen. Steve Dixon also has a couple of really good interpretations of Mark's work too. See the link on the lower left here, or go to http://www.cdbaby.com/gurleymark.***************July 7, 2005, got an email from Sandy Shore of smoothjazz.com who said " Thanks for sending along your project... Â TESTING THE WATER. Â I think you've done a great job with the CD.... "Also sent the CD to Montenegro recently. May 31, both "house concerts" were great fun. Hopefully, we'll get more people to come the next time. Thanks to Joan and David for coming up to Monterey and sharing their terrific music and time with us. We generated a $100 donation to Chamisal's Relay for Life American Cancer Society event with our music! **************May 10, received an email from Molli Kreuser from the Internet Radio Show Molls Rawks. " I wanted to inform you that your music will be featured on my LIVE show today, May 10 at 7pm, (Chicago time) and will be rerun Friday at noon, 4pm, and 7pm. i apologize for the late notice....Please let your fans, friends, family, and pets know so they can tune in during one if not all of those times!http://www.fearlessradio.com is the link you will need to boogie on over and hook up to the net and listen."***************A buddy of mine is always coming up with marketing ideas for the CD: "Use it as a coaster. (silver, shiny, goes with any decor) No salesmen will come to your door. (Like anyone does that now adaze?) You liked Harry Chapin, John Denver, Cat Stevens, you'll like Greg's stuff too! (OK) Get one for a friend. They're small and easy to mail, or conceal. (Take it as gifts to your family, who you always forget to send presents to and now you're going to see them in person in how many years???) Send them to the AFLCIO, (American Hard Labor) send them to GM for use in their car ads. (Cool Guys) Send them to the Washington Apple Growers Association (Lucious)."*****************I've got some friends coming over on a regular basis to work on harmonies and other guitar parts. We're doing a semi-regular appearance at a local coffee shop in OldTown Salinas, a block away from the National Steinbeck Center. If you're in Salinas, stop by Rollicks Specialty Coffees at 210 S. Main Street on Friday night for the open mic. May 21 I've got a singer/songwriter friend coming up for a week of music. Joan Enguita will be on KNRY 1240 AM Radio Gig Monterey May 17th and then a "house concert" Saturday night at Chamisal Tennis Club 185 Robley Road in Salinas. 7:30pm-9:30pm.
