| | John Fogerty Revival CD John Fogerty Discography of CDs
(21 Customer Reviews)
Like cowboy hats and political scandal, John Fogerty is a timeless American tradition. Ever since he led Creedence Clearwater Revival to their status as America's first great heartland rock band, John Fogerty has been the musical equivalent of Henry Fonda, Gary Cooper, and JFK rolled into one. Through CCR's breakup and his subsequent solo career, Fogerty's music has adhered to its original template of swampy blues-rock with splashes of country/folk twang, and 2007's REVIVAL is no exception.
Even after four decades of recording, Fogerty's voice sounds remarkably fresh and unchanged. The sound that emanates from the opening cut, "Don't You Wish it Was True," is as pure and unsullied as the utopian wish conveyed by the lyrics. And for a man who spent years refusing to play his back catalog and enduring litigation over his old band's material, it's interesting to hear him acknowledge his past so wholeheartedly; on the sly "Creedence Son "his guitar teases old CCR licks, and "I Can't Take it No More" references "Fortunate Son." By playing to his strengths and reeling out bluesy, rootsy riffs and belting in his patented salty-but-sweet manner, Fogerty reiterates his continued status as an American musical icon.

Rolling Stone (p.76) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Fogerty's documentary roots rock was always rebel music, a counterculture of factory-floor politics via Hank Williams and Dale Hawkins. REVIVAL is no rerun. It is Fogerty getting back to work..." Rolling Stone (p.108) - Included in Rolling Stone's "50 Top Albums of the Year 2007" -- "The Creedence man has never lost his most sustaining strength, which is the warmth and grit of his voice." Entertainment Weekly (p.126) - "Fogerty's seventh studio album shows that his soul-scarred voice and knack for killer licks remain as potent as ever..." Uncut (p.110) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "12 songs, while rooted in an idealist, mythic Americana, also offer rallying cries that are as blisteringly contemporary as Credence's 'Fortunate Son' was back in 1970..." Dirty Linen (p.72) - "With REVIVAL, Fogerty reclaims his title as one of rock's most passionate and tuneful songwriters, and he sings and plays guitar with a fierceness and abandon that he has not exhibited in years." John Fogerty Revival Songs Revival Music Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Very good music and politics don't mix. I have been a fan of John Fogerty for many years, both as a solo artist and as the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, and for the most part I really like his latest release "Revival." I was very happy with the fact that he got back to his CCR roots, especially with songs like "Don't You Wish It Was True," "Creedence Song," and "Natural Thing." Some of my favorites are rockers like "Somebody Help Me," "Longshot," "Summer of Love," and his dedication to the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan with the song "It Ain't Right." As good as this CD is,I have taken exception to his cracks towards President Bush and his staff in songs like "I Can't take It No More," and "Long Dark Night." I have never been a fan of mixing music and politics...it makes me wonder if he would be this gracious towards Hillary or Obama if they did the exact same things if they were president?? Probably not,but that's just me. All things considered,"Revival" is a good rocking CD. All of John Fogerty's fans will love it. Submitted by Phil (Mentor,Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Another war to capitalize on.... I love John Fogerty and CCR, BUT....
this CD would have been a better without all the whiny (and in some cases) "false accusations" that Bush lied. It was, however, a GRAND opportunity to capitalize on the war that John just could'nt pass up. It should be expected since "Fortuante Son" has come to be called the greatest protest song ever written. (By the way, ANYONE who did not have FIGHT OR DIE in Vietnam IS in deed a FORTUNATE son. The really sad part is, a lot of simple minds who love John will follow right along like sheep just because they idolize him. I love JF's music, but disagree with his political views. This would have been a better album of it had stuck with more positive themes like "Don't You Wish It were Trure" or at least,... neutral themes. "It' Ain't Right" is halarious. And even the misquided, "I Can't Take It No More" is delivered in a very funny and entertaining way. I'll always love John and CCR. Submitted by Brent (Louisiana) Was This Review Helpful? Genious John Fogerty shows in this record all of his skills as frontman, writter and with his famous and still perfect raspy voice. Great CD. I recommend it for all.

Purchase Revival CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Brian Wilson Smile CD (2004)
Revival album
$16.19 Between 1967 and 2004, the SMILE sessions were pretty much the Dead Sea Scrolls of pop music. Well documented as head Beach Boy Brian Wilson's answer to the Beatles' masterpiece SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (which was itself largely an answer to the Beach Boys' PET SOUNDS), the tracks laid down in '67 for the projected SMILE album were the furthest afield anyone nominally operating under the pop/rock umbrella had ever ventured. Notoriously, intraband conflict (Mike Love, in particular, found the Wilson/Van ...

| | Bruce Springsteen Magic CD (2007)
Revival CD music
$11.29 Following up two folk-flavored albums, MAGIC finds Bruce Springsteen laying down his acoustic guitar to reclaim his rock-hero crown. He's assisted in this endeavor by producer Brendan O'Brien, best-known for big-time '90s hard rock, but the results have little in common with O'Brien's grungy past. Instead, MAGIC's sonic blueprint is more in line with Bruce's last stadium-rock statement, 2002's THE RISING. The album is front-loaded with hard-charging, heavy-riffing tunes ("Radio ...
| | David Sylvian Everything And Nothing CDs (2000)
Revival music CDs
$15.15 EVERYTHING AND NOTHING is a two-disc set of "best of" tracks from David Sylvian's career (including some with former band Japan), previously unreleased recordings, and re-recorded or otherwise alternate versions of other tracks (initial copies also included a third disc of remixes and further alternate versions). Most collections spanning such a length of time (20 years!) are spotty at best, but Sylvian's career has been unusually consistent, both in terms of direction and quality, and EVERYTHING AND NOTHING is guided by a clarity of vision absent from most compilations. Listening to it is more like hearing a new David Sylvian record than a random sampling from his catalogue. HIghlights include the usual suspects; "Blackwater," "Ghosts," and "Godman," all standouts on the albums from which they were culled. Alongside those tracks, though, is the true ...

$32.85 "Ah rogers, can't he give it a rest? The lad confided in me that the year was to be spent writing his memoirs and composing a stage musical purely for the litany of schools he had attended, whilst obtaining a well-deserved paunch. "givin' up and getting fat" essentially. I caught wind of "the luxury of hysteria" project when frequenting a charming house of ill repute in the back streets of fitzroy. The talk in the, err, waiting room was abuzz with the rumours of rogers' return from his tropical retreat armed to his chipped teeth with a catalogue of new songs written whilst barred up in his bungalow attempting a fresh haircut. Telexes and carrier pigeons were sent to his rabble of charming thugs the temperance union, and a potential new partner/foe in the ...
