Alongside the forward thinking post bop released on Blue Note in the early 1960s was a strain of funkier, simpler, and more blues-based jazz exemplified by the likes of organist Jimmy Smith and saxophonist Lou Donaldson. Donaldson's 1961 effort, ... Full DescriptionGRAVY TRAIN, re-released in 2007 complete with Rudy Van Gelder remastering, is a strong example of the style. Lou Donaldson: Gravy Train songs
$10.99 Duke Jordan made his mark in jazz in the late 1940s as one of bebop innovator Charlie Parker's regular pianists, but he didn't blossom as a composer until the hard-bop era of the mid-'50s. FLIGHT TO JORDAN, his 1960 Blue Note debut, captures Jordan at a creative peak. ...

Lou Donaldson: Gravy Train album
$10.99 This is part of the Blue Note Limited Edition Connoisseur series.

Davis's style is a nigh on perfect synthesis of the mercurial bebop of Bud Powell and the thoughtful cool of Thelonious Monk. With a group that's quintessentially Blue Note (Jackie McLean, ...
