The Halfway Crooks are a band at the start of a unique blend of reggae-rock, live hip hop, and ska from Yonkers, New York. Halfway Crooks came together in early 2004, mixing several musical elements together in a style that can be described only by hearing it: soulful and grooving rock, reggae, ska, hip-hop, and funk rhythms played by drums, guitar, and bass, accompanied by organ, synths, and keyboards; overlapped by smooth melodies, melodic raps, and infectious hooks; featuring several tracks accompanied by guest lyricists and vocalists; with lyrics painting a picture of suburban life, through teenage years and into the 20's.
Following a path of originality, similar to the influences of Sublime, the Roots, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Halfway Crooks blend several layers that equally appeal to fans of rock and rap alike, widening their potential audience tenfold. The average Joe will always stop on a radio station for a good one-liner hook, and music lovers everywhere welcome the improvisational element and eclectic sounds that the Halfway Crooks' music exhibits.
The group is known for their energetic performances and crazy stage antics which makes every show a party within itself. When you're at a Crooks show you never know what your going to get. The only constant is the great music which is always provided and on point. The group strives to make the audience more than just onlookers as they take steps to get as many people as possible involved with the music and it is not unusual for the crowd to be showered with party-favors such as balloon animals or glowsticks. No joke- just like the album art for "Raise the Bar", Halfway Crooks is a musical-carnival act.
The commercial music scene is always thirsty for a kick in the ass to fire it up and showcase a band that appeals to a universal audience.
The Halfway Crooks have made an impression on many local NY bar & college scenes. They have played all over Westchester County at bars, charity events, and private partes as well as world famous NYC clubs like CBGB's. They have since then expanded through the Northeast gigging in Philly, D.C., Massachusetts, and Vermont to bring their music to a wider audience.
With the release of the new album "Raise the Bar" on 12/31/07, the Crooks have proved that they are a band that stands out from the rest and have a bright future ahead.

confused There were a few songs left out of the album, like dear prudence and all you need is love, and those were a couple of songs I was really looking forward to having. Other than that, I really loved the movie and album. Submitted by hmb15 (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
