| | Sara Evans Greatest Hits CD Sara Evans Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
A stint on the TV reality hit DANCING WITH THE STARS (which unfortunately was shortened by a messy and very public divorce) brought Sara Evans to the same sort of mainstream pop attention that singers such as Faith Hill, the Dixie Chicks, or Carrie Underwood were familiar with. As a well-chosen précis of her career up to that point, 2007's GREATEST HITS is a fine introduction to an underrated country talent. Gathering 10 songs from Evans's first five albums plus four brand-new songs, including the defiant first single, "As If," GREATEST HITS is a textbook example of how to program a best-of compilation that will attract both devoted fans and newcomers.
Personnel: Sara Evans (background vocals); John Shanks (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, electric bass, background vocals); Dan Dugmore (pedal steel guitar); Jonathan Yudkin (banjo, mandolin, violin, fiddle, viola, cello, harmonium, upright bass); Charles Judge (piano, Hammond b-3 organ, keyboards, programming); Paul Bushnell (electric bass); Jeff Rothschild (drums, programming); Chris McHugh, Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums); Hilary Lindsey, Matt Evans, Ashley Simpson, Vince Gill (background vocals).

Greatest Hits
$11.49 Known to some fans simply as "the girl with the hat," Terri Clark challenged the Nashville establishment in the mid-1990s by showing that a woman could play straight-up New Traditionalist country just as well as the boys, without resorting to revealing outfits and big hair. Coming off like a female Alan Jackson with a touch of Dwight Yoakam, Clark delivered her first single, "Better Things to Do" with a mix of authentic honky-tonk swagger and unabashed twang. In addition, she could sing ballads with a classic tear-in-your-beer roughness ("If I Were You") and deliver a slightly bawdy rocker in the best roadhouse ...
| | Brooks & Dunn Greatest Hits Collection II CD (2004)
Greatest Hits
$9.75 There's no denying that Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn ruled the pop/country roost throughout the 1990s, but this second volume of Brooks & Dunn hits shows that the phenomenally successful duo kept chugging along well beyond their early-'90s heyday. It's mainly occupied by tracks from the late '90s and early 2000s, interspersed with a few new bonus cuts to keep the faithful on board. Those who've kept up with the twosome's career will be familiar with the ground covered by the hits, from the old-school barroom weeper "I'll Never Forgive My Heart" to the nostalgic Bob Seger-goes-to-Nashville country-rock title track of the duo's 2003 album, RED DIRT ...
| | Joe Nichols III CD (2005)
Greatest Hits
$6.59 III starts off with two songs that seem to play on novelty: "Size Matters (Someday)" and III's first single "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" (a song reputedly written--though it tests believability--about the singer's grandmother). These tunes are somewhat lightweight for Nichols, yet he pulls them off with a charm that balances the serious roots aesthetic apparent throughout the rest of this strong release.
Joe Nichols's III (which is, ironically, the artist's seventh release) gives listeners another ...
| | Sugarland Enjoy The Ride CD (2006)
Greatest Hits
$10.79 With the departure of founding member Kristen Hall, Sugarland slimmed down to a duo. Losing one-third of the formula that made their debut a country/pop crossover smash might seem a daunting proposition, but ENJOY THE RIDE finds remaining members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush not only surviving but ...
| | Garth Brooks Ultimate Hits CDs (2007) With DVD
Greatest Hits
$12.35 For a period in the early 1990s, Garth Brooks was not only the biggest star in country music, he was one of the biggest stars in music, period. An unassuming Oklahoman who fused the blue-collar ethic of new traditionalist country with an unapologetic pop side that drew on his love of 1970s rockers like Kiss and Billy Joel, Garth Brooks fundamentally changed the sound of mainstream country music in much the same way that Hank Williams had in the 1940s and Patsy Cline had in the 1950s. THE ULTIMATE HITS, a three-disc ...

| | 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Vol. 2: Rick James & Friends CD (2005)
Greatest Hits
$8.55 Renowned in mainstream pop for his 1981 smash single "Super Freak," Rick James was far from a one-hit wonder; in fact, he was a prolific performer, songwriter, and producer throughout the late '70s and early '80s. While this 20TH CENTURY MASTERS collection does feature vocals by James on some tracks, it primarily serves to showcase the funk icon's '80s production work and songwriting talents (most of the tunes on this disc were penned by James).
James proteges the Mary Jane Girls are featured on a couple of synth-heavy tracks, "All Night Long" and the infectious "In My House." An even more famous James discovery, the soulful vocalist Teena Marie, is represented by two songs with her mentor--the frenetic "I'm a Sucker for Your Love" and the Quiet Storm-like ballad "Fire and Desire." Also included are ...
