| | Rippingtons 20th Anniversary Celebration CD (2006) With DVD
Weather Channel Presents - The Best Of Smooth Jazz album
$15.65 (MP3 Available for Download) Is it possible to pinpoint precisely when a popular style came into being? In one instance, a case could be made for smooth jazz's watershed moment: the debut of the Rippingtons. Formed in 1986, the Rippingtons are the brainchild of jazz guitarist and pianist Russ Freeman. They are to smooth jazz what Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers were to hard bop--namely, a musical college whose "alumnae" became stars of smooth jazz, a style unifying the most melodious aspects of fusion and post bop. The sole original member, Freeman gathered associates past and present for this disc to commemorate 20 years of successful music-making. The roll call of saxophonists alone is a Who's Who: Dave Koz, Brandon Fields, Kirk Whalum, and Eric Marienthal. Another leading light here is percussionist Steve Reid, who has also excelled in fusion and New Age contexts. While mostly instrumental, the album contains some tasty vocal spots, courtesy of Jeffrey Osborne (featured on the bonus track, the Spinners' "I'll Be Around") and jazz-pop ...

| | Paul Hardcastle Hardcastle 5 CD (2008)
Weather Channel Presents - The Best Of Smooth Jazz songs
$11.05 Smooth jazz artist Paul Hardcastle is known for his synth-dominated instrumentals, and the fifth installment in his series of numerically titled albums (released in the mid-2000s) delivers more of the easy-listening ambient soundscapes for which he's known. Some tracks have a smooth R&B flavor, while others are light fusion, and others still are atmospheric sonic explorations. Taken together, they create an aural experience that is gently ...

| | Fay Victor Lazy Old Sun CD (2004)
Weather Channel Presents - The Best Of Smooth Jazz MP3 Album
$11.39 What the critics had to say about lazy Old Sun:"A boldly inventive Betty Carter-Billie Holiday hybrid...the tremendously versatile Victor takes off into all sorts of curiously exciting directions...a real find, a true original.-Christopher Loudon, JazzTimes, March 2005 "Unlike so many vocal CD’s on the market, this is a true collaboration. That speaks volumes about Victor’s maturity and confidence, trusting and then delivering on the idea that she can hang with such a solid cast of improvisers(...)Lazy Old Sun has been in heavy rotation since it arrived(...)It accounts both for the wide technical toolkit she employs (...)and for why this music hits such a poignant spot within the listener. "-Charles Walker, Sudden Thoughts. "Sounds like a young Betty Carter with a bad case of wanderlust...a live set strong enough to win over all but the most anti-vocal jazz-fans... "-Kurt Gottschalk, Signal to Noise, Spring 2005 "Fay Victor is a gifted musician, possessed of flawless intonation, musical imagination, and inventive phrasing ... this album deserves a first, a second, and a third listening." -William Grim, All about Jazz "Lazy Old Sun puts a fresh new twist on jazz singing...her rich alto and perfect pitch allow the quartet to play with the fringes of dissonance...it keeps hope alive that something fresh may still be coming for jazz singing" -Phillip McNally, Cadence magazine, March 2005 "Fay ...
