Kansas City representative and former Scribble Jam champ Mac Lethal adds a dose of observational humor to his signature lyrical sarcasm on the Rhymesayers release 11:11. Speaking on range of everyday topics (his favorites seem to be beer, making out with strangers, and half-hearted protest music), Mac declares himself anti-almost everything but "pro-eating Captain Crunch cereal for dinner" and makes humbling statements somehow boastful (i.e. "See I could never date a girl that's on a magazine cover/'cause self-absorbed women don't make good lovers"). 11:11 is a clever, conversational rap record fueled by snarky humor and stoner cynicism. Production comes courtesy of Seven, Lenny D, and Lazerbeak.

This album is well worth picking up. I haven't been listening to much rap as of late but, I heard this and haven't taken it out of the player yet!

After rotation 2, I was hooked. Picked it up this morning on my way to work and can't wait to listen again on the way home. Clever lyrics and interesting beats. Pick this up for sure. Better than anything on your radio dial.

Truth be told, the Trembling Blue Stars routine was getting kind of stale by the release of Seven Autumn Flowers in 2004. With that album they crossed the line that divides reliable and predictable; no longer did the morose lyrics, melancholy vocals, minor chords and cheesy synths make a positive impression. Luckily for fans of the band, The Last Holy Writer is a comeback of sorts, certainly an improvement, and maybe even one of their finest records. How did they do it? It's hard to say because on the surface it seems like not much has changed sound or mood-wise. There's still a preponderance of downbeat lyrics and Bob Wratten hasn't suddenly traded in his mope for a smile, no fear of that anytime soon. The building blocks of their sound are mostly the same too.
