| | Mac Lethal 11:11 CD Mac Lethal Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Kansas City representative and former Scribble Jam champ Mac Lethal adds a dose of observational humor to his signature lyrical sarcasm on the Rhymesayers release 11:11. Speaking on range of everyday topics (his favorites seem to be beer, making ... Full Descriptionout with strangers, and half-hearted protest music), Mac declares himself anti-almost everything but "pro-eating Captain Crunch cereal for dinner" and makes humbling statements somehow boastful (i.e. "See I could never date a girl that's on a magazine cover/'cause self-absorbed women don't make good lovers"). 11:11 is a clever, conversational rap record fueled by snarky humor and stoner cynicism. Production comes courtesy of Seven, Lenny D, and Lazerbeak.
Personnel: John Brewer (keyboards); DJ Sku (turntables).
Rolling Stone (p.125) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Fitting perfectly articulated rhymes to efficiently catchy beats in an accent as Middle American as canned peaches, he's a contemporary cross between a folk singer and a stand-up comic." Alternative Press (p.188) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Seven, Lazerbeak and Lenny D handle the production, providing bouncy Bossa nova grooves, sampled breathy chanteuses and colossal reggae-dub bass drops." Great, worthy of a purchase. After rotation 2, I was hooked. Picked it up this morning on my way to work and can't wait to listen again on the way home. Clever lyrics and interesting beats. Pick this up for sure. Better than anything on your radio dial. Submitted by wllccrrll (L.A, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

11:11 album
$11.65 EVERCLEAR, AMC's finest hour and one the '90s' most powerful albums, is simultaneously lush and searing, heartache and despair borne out in elegant arrangements that combine fragile prettiness and soul-baring howls of pain. Multi-instrumentalist Bruce Kaphan rose to the occasion of his production debut. The canyons of reverb on the instruments are strangely appropriate, highlighting the almost decadent, tragically beautiful feel of the songs. Keyboards, pedal steel, and acoustic guitars drift like abandoned ships swirling around in a colorfully tempestuous sea full of unknown nautical demons. Guitarist Vudi contributes some of the most artful, non-traditional sounds ever concocted by a "rock" axeman.
The album begins with a slow, soulful lament to a love who's either sleeping or dead, before taking up the subject of mortality more fully in the anthemic "Rise," written by Eitzel for an AIDS-stricken friend. Eitzel observes the trials of those around him on "Ex-Girlfriend," but "Sick of Food" turns his gaze inward, breathlessly ...

11:11 album
$7.99 Mantis is a seven piece hip-hop, pop, culture clash ensemble. Comprised of five souls from the city of Oakland, Mantis is a musical menagerie of styles, cultures and influences. Mantis plays various local shows and has opened for such musicians af Afroman. They began their musical escapade in 2004, rocking the eastern portion of the S.F. Bay Area in a drop' hoppin' beat fashion, an now hope to broaden their exposure. Their music is diverse enough for many ears, but is focused for those who appreciate Poppy music without a compromise of musicality and diversity; just give it a listen... or check out www.myspace.com/mantisbandDear all, My band, Mantis, is a popular rock-rhythm & blues-- thats R&R&B for all you haters-- based in Oakland, California. The seven of us have been playing together for three years and have done about a dozen shows around the bay area. We've played with Afroman, Asteroid B-612, and Starfist, and we just finished our new Calling Card demo. We hope it will help us get heard on a broader scale. Mantis is comprised of five dudes, a female bassist, and a woman singer. We're not like one of those bands where every guy is the exact same, a la "Good Charlotte" or "Limp Bizkit" or some other crap band like that. I'd almost go as far as to say that we are six character actors that can all play music. My drummer, Yæïr HeßeR is the metrosexual, (great looking), eurotrash clubber. My guitarist Jason is the classic axe-wielding, motorcycle riding rocker. My keyboard player, Greg, is the clean cut Christian boy whose love for music is only surpassed by his love for Asian girls. My singer, Lily, is the sultry and sexy eye candy-- mmmmmm... eye candy. As for the other chick, my bassist Lyzi is the crazy punk chick who was that girl who beat up the boys when she was little, and still sometimes threatens it. Mark is our resident rapper who brings a sprinkle of thug appeal and a knowledge of how to spit ice cold lyrics. As for myself-- I'd just like to think that I bring the group some class where it is needed and a little sleaze and swanky attitude. We're gonna be around ...
| | Bynum True Events CD (2007)
11:11 CD music
$17.09 These longtime collaborators first worked together 15 years ago while still in high school, and have since performed together hundreds of times in a variety of ensembles. "I feel like I can anticipate what Tomas is going to play," says Bynum of their relationship in the liner notes, "yet I'm continually surprised and delighted and inspired by what he does." The nine tracks on True Events, a mix of pre-conceived elements and spontaneous improvisation, also take their inspiration from Anthony Braxton's principles of language improvisation, as well as the work of musicians such as Alan Dawson, Talib Kweli and Wayne Shorter.Critics have called Taylor Ho Bynum "a cutting-edge trumpet phenom" (Boston Phoenix), "a creative force" (Boston Globe), "a distinct voice" (Cadence), "a marvelous cornetist" (AllAboutJazz.com) and "one of the savviest trumpeters to come along in recent years" (Village Voice). The Brooklyn-based musician/composer's expansive resume includes frequent work with a variety of his contemporaries, as well as icons such as Cecil Taylor and Anthony Braxton, performing and recording extensively with the latter over the past decade. Also known as "a formidable composer" (Brian Morton, The Wire), Bynum leads a variety of his own groups. In 2005, AllAboutJazz.com's Paul Olson called his 482 Music debut, Other Stories (Three Suites), "the best album of the year."Fellow Boston native Tomas Fujiwara is an in-demand drummer with some of today's most ...
