(1 Customer Review)
Aside from the Bee Gees or Kylie Minogue, you rarely hear much about popular Australian musical exports, and even less about Australian metal. It should come as no surprise that a country rife with deadly beauty and harsh deserts features some killer metal, and the deceptively named Parkway Drive certainly fit the bill. Armed with racing licks and amped-up drums, the songs on HORIZONS thrash and grind with conviction. Burned-black vocals from Winston McCall rasp along like gravel under hot tires, and the band mixes things up by shifting into the tar-pit blues of Pantera whenever the tempos slow. This is heavy stuff, perfect for driving down a desolate highway in the blinding sun.
Parkway Drive: Winston McCall (vocals); Luke Kilpatrick, Jeff Ling (guitars); Jia O'Connor (bass guitar); Ben Gordon (drums).
Additional personnel: Pete Abordi (vocals); Slo-Han Tu-Dix (guitar).
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.49) - "If you're looking for exquisitely executed, technically awesome, frantic noodlage paired with chuggy guitars, sprinting drums and demon hellspawn vocals, this is one for you." | | As I Lay Dying An Ocean Between Us CD (2007)
Horizons
$10.75 Faith-inspired heavy music has come a long way from the likes of glammy '80s pop metallists Stryper. San Diego's As I Lay Dying are steadfast in their beliefs, but make no effort to force the message lyrically. For the Christian hardcore metal outfit's fourth full-length (and third for Metal Blade), Tim Lambesis and company focus intently on further developing their writing chops--employing ...

| | Ferris Mudd CD (2006)
Horizons
$9.59 This 3-piece progressive rock band combines elements of classic progressive rock with their unique musical influence to create the original sound that is Ferris Mudd. ALEX JASPERSE of The Muse's Muse says: There’s more to Ferris Mudd than words. While their music can be beautiful and full of familiar sounds in tracks like “Unrapped”, it can also be dark, disturbing and vicious. “End of the Day” sails from gentle acoustic guitar lines to electric guitar passages that interject a brief sense of ...

| | Robert Wyatt Comicopera CD (2007)
Horizons
$12.95 As with all of his '00s output, Wyatt trades in the exploratory psych-prog of his early '70s work in favor of elegant and ornate jazz arrangements. His voice--an unsung treasure of British rock--remains the centering constant here, as Wyatt's orchestrations swing from the mellow and alluring ("Just As You Are" and "You You") to the disquieting ("Fragment" and "Cancion de Julieta," which also find Wyatt abandoning English in favor of Spanish and Italian lyrics). While Wyatt's conceptual ambitions might be hard to grasp in detail, the tracks haunt and never need elaboration, placing COMIC OPERA amongst his best works as a solo artist.
First with his legendary band the Soft Machine and then as a solo artist, Robert Wyatt has never been afraid of a hefty conceit in his music. Fittingly, COMIC OPERA--his Domino records debut and first since 2003's CUCKOOLAND--continued Robert Wyatt's impressive string of late period solo records by focusing on nothing less than the innate comedy of the human condition. Wyatt presents an opus divided into three acts--"Lost in Noise," "The Here and the Now," and "Away With the Fairies"--centered ...
