On their self-titled debut Florida quartet We the Kings deliver a well-polished version of hooky punk-pop. On tunes like "Skyway Avenue" and "Stay Young," We the Kings prove that there's still plenty of mileage left in guitar-driven, radio-ready rock with and emphasis on catchy, anthemic choruses that stick in your head. Elsewhere, "Secret Valentine" and "Check Yes Juliet" show the open-hearted romantic side of the band, without losing the punch of their tuneful rock.

When a friend first introduced me to We The Kings I was like hmmm..they're okay but not that spectular. But after a while their catchy tunes stuck in my head but I still didn't think they were AWESOME. But after seeing them in concert I was AMAZED. They have so much energy when they perform and sound a million times better than they do on the cd. I would recomend "check yes juliet","The Quiet", "Don't Speak Liar",and my favorite "This Is Our Town". You must own this album.

 WE THEEE KINGS. honestly.
so i was a bit judgmental by their band name. thats horrible i know, but i figured we the kings sounded like some scremo or heavy metal when my ex told me about how he was going to their concert. he had me listen to check yes Juliet and i fell in love. most all of the songs you just fall in love with as soon as hearing the first lines, but some you listen to a couple times and you realize you know all the words and adore them.
As i beginner listener i suggest listening to: check yes juliet, dont speak liar, august is over.
but all are excellent.

I was first introduced to we the kings at a concert. I talked to Travis (lead singer/guitarist) recently and he is genuinely a nice guy which makes the music seem so much better and true to the heart. The cd is great and if you ever get a chance to see this band, you will love it. They play their music with so much energy and passion.

NOFX are masters of the punk ethic of self-deprecation, and it begs the question if they truly realize the mark they have made on the history of modern hardcore. After 18 years, the band that sums up its musical prowess humbly as "good," releases a staggering collection of B-sides, compilation tracks, and rare cuts (many of which were previously long out-of-print in their original 7" pressings).

Chris Scanlon would like you to know that you don’t need to have come of age in New Jersey to connect to the stories and characters on his debut solo CD U-Turn. The themes he sings about are universal (or perhaps it’s just that so many of us have passed through New Jersey’s portals that they just seem so?). Scanlon, a former yet forever Jersey Boy himself, didn’t set out to write a song cycle about his youth in the Garden State. Still he thinks there’s a little New Jersey in all of us. He’s a songwriter with an enthusiastic following in Northampton, MA, a competitive music market. He moves easily from rock to folk, ballads to anthems, with a little scat and funk thrown in. In other words, Chris Scanlon is not your typical singer-songwriter. U-Turn (2007, Plaid Jacket Records) is Chris Scanlon\'s first full-length solo album. Recorded at Sow’s Ear Studios with engineer/producer Scot Coar (Angry Johnny and the Killbillies), it features Afro-percussion master Tony Vacca (Sting, Gokh-bi System), Maggie Nowinski (Thrillpillow), New York City jazz trumpeter Greg Glassman and singer-songwriter and fellow Plump alumni Carrie Ferguson. On ‘u-turn” Scanlon takes us to his Jersey shore, full of old ghosts, tired battles, disrupted homes and strong bloodlines. The album is a snapshot of New Jersey from his very own family album, reminding us what we strive to take with us when we leave home, and what we struggle to leave behind. U-Turn is about achieving our goals and dreams despite the hypnotic pull of the past. As a solo artist, Chris has won wide recognition in Western Massachusetts, having been chosen to participate in the singer-songwriter event juried by WRSI 95.3 The River in 2003, 2004 and 2007 (The River was named one of Rolling Stone’s top ten radio stations).
