Wize on the mic and the quick hands of DJ C4 on the one and twos and his ill beats, 9 Volt is bringing back "grass roots" hip-hop in full stream.P. Wize was born in Brooklyn, New York and now resides in East Orange, New Jersey. About ten years ago, P. Wize began his music career competing in local talent shows and performing in street parties combining the rough rhyme style he adopted in Brooklyn, with the more party oriented New Jersey sound. P. Wize was apart of a group who were signed to an independent label, but, due to creative differences, they were dropped from the label. P. Wize does not have any musical influences, but says, "anyone who writes from the heart, influences me to express myself."DJ C4 was also born and resides in Brooklyn, New York and acquired the love for music at a very early age. About eleven years ago, he began making mix tapes and dee jaying parties. His early musical influences include Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. DJ C4's musical influences in hip-hop include Run-D.M.C., Eric B. & Rakim and Public Enemy. DJ C4 was immediately dedicated and determined in learning and mastering the art of the scratch and becoming the "complete DJ" through hours and hours of practicing daily, mixing songs, switching from turntable to turntable at incredible speeds and creating funky melodic scratches. He was apart of a group that recorded several demos and performed at several showcases, but nothing came of it.In 2001, DJ C4 started his own record label, Doomzday Entertainment, Inc. and immediately started his hunt for an M.C. who possessed the hardcore and smooth melodic style that would compliment his beats and tracks to bring back the M.C./DJ tandem. Neal Hagberg and Leandra Peak ended up on the road to music mostly by accident...Hagberg was on his way to medical school and Peak to a career in international business when the road veered. Since then they have found themselves singing to sold out thousand seat venues in some towns and four people and a sick dog (true story) in others.Leandra - private by nature - was dragged kicking and screaming into the spotlight. Even though she had acted in a professional theater group as a teenager, she had no desire to make a career out of it, and refused even to take solos in the high school choir. As a little girl, all she ever wanted was to be on Johnny Carson. Not for her voice, not for her writing or stage presence, but because she thought Johnny would simply find her funny. Neal thought a career in professional sports sounded good. Being a small college wishbone quarterback did not exactly prepare him for the NFL. It didn’t prepare him for the folk world either, but he figured at least in music he wouldn’t get landed on by 300 lb. noseguards. So, he wrote some songs, some people liked them, and he quit his med school plans to go on the road. He somehow convinced Leandra to go along. That is the story in a nutshell. Leandra grew up in Louisville, KY, Neal in Montevideo, MN. Leandra was raised on Perry Como and barbershop, Neal on The Mamas and the Papas and Swedish hymns. They met at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota in 1981.
