| | Celine Dion Taking Chances CD Celine Dion Discography of CDs
That enormous mop of Stevie Nicks-style rock-chick hair on the front cover of TAKING CHANCES is the first clue that this is a different sort of album for Celine Dion. The formerly carefully coiffed French Canadian singer's first mainstream pop effort since 2002's A NEW DAY HAS COME, TAKING CHANCES is Dion's rock album. Guest producers and songwriters include former Evanescence co-leader Ben Moody, Canadian hard rocker Aldo Nova, Britpop master Kimberley Rew (of Soft Boys and Katrina and the Waves fame), and Linda Perry, who wrote and produced hits for Pink and Christina Aguilera, among others. Over the course of these 16 songs, Dion applies her bombastic, unapologetically operatic vocal style to an entirely new context, and the combination works well. Perry, Rew, and Moody in particular have previous experience working with female singers with big voices, so their songs match Dion's expressive vocal power with wailing guitars, dramatic piano crescendos, and subtle reminders of the rock of arenas past, from BORN TO RUN-era Bruce Springsteen to Heart's power ballad days. Indeed, one of the album's highlights is perhaps the definitive version of Heart's "Alone." While not noisy enough to worry Dion's easy-listening fans, TAKING CHANCES lives up to its title admirably.

Taking Chances album
$8.95 "The Prayer" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s).
Whether or not you're a fan, it's undeniable that Celine Dion is the people's siren of choice in turn-of-the-millennium America. Part of the reason for that (apart from her superhuman pipes) is the way she throws herself into a song with total emotional commitment, taking nothing lightly. That kind of earnestness serves her in good stead on this collection of Christmas tunes. Tackling both the traditional ("Ave Maria," "Adeste Fideles") and the modern ...
| | Tim Mcgraw Let It Go CD (2007)
Taking Chances CD music
$8.45 On his first album in nearly three years, Tim McGraw delivers more of the rock-influenced country that has made him one of Nashville's biggest stars, but in a more reflective, at times almost somber, mood. The title track sets a tone of heartbreak and unspecified desperation that's amplified through the album's other 12 songs. Even the traditional duet with McGraw's wife, the eternally sunny Faith ...
| | Leann Rimes Family CD (2007)
Taking Chances music CDs
$6.85 There are few career paths more difficult to navigate one's way out of than child star. Just like their more publicized counterparts in the acting field, singers who make their first major splash before reaching adulthood have a high probability of either becoming a punch line or, perhaps even worse, a non-entity by the time they're old enough to drink. Country star LeAnn Rimes has successfully reinvented herself at the age of 25 with FAMILY, the culmination of her attempt to refashion herself away from the image of the 13-year-old cowgirl who first hit the pop charts in the mid-1990s.
For the first time, Rimes wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs on FAMILY (some limited editions add two bonus tracks including a remix of "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore," Rimes' duet on Bon Jovi's LOST HIGHWAY album), and she reveals herself to be a smart, canny songwriter with a knack ...
| | Josh Groban Noel CD (2007)
Taking Chances songs
$14.59 Only his fourth studio album, NOEL finds Josh Groban already tackling that canonical mainstay of the adult contemporary singer, the Christmas album. As always, NOEL is a masterfully performed set, balanced neatly between pop standards and the more operatic material that showcases Groban's roots. Interestingly, he sounds best on the most familiar holiday standards, like "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and Mel Torme's "The Christmas Song," both of which he invests with casual, jazzy phrasing, providing a welcome disinclination for the usual Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby homages that many other young singers in the style fall into. Even this early into his career, Groban clearly has a deeply held sense of who he is as a singer and interpreter, and this lovely collection is proof that he's one of the most exciting adult contemporary ...
| | The Best Of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere CD (2007)
Taking Chances album
$10.49 Issued in 2007, this Andrea Bocelli collection presents many of the Italian classical/pop-crossover artist's most memorable vocal performances. Highlights of the compilation include "Sogno" and "Because We Believe," tracks that fully reveal Bocelli's emotive and resonant voice, as well as duets with Celine Dion ("The Prayer," a delicate ballad) and Sarah Brightman (the wistful "Time to Say Goodbye"). While VIVERE may be a bit too concise for diehard Bocelli fans, it serves as a perfect introduction to the beloved singer.
Classical crossover mainstay Andrea Bocelli's first greatest-hits collection to date, released nearly a decade-and-a-half after he made his album debut in 1994, The Best of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere includes many of his best-known songs plus ...

| | Bobby "Blue" Bland Blues At Midnight CD (2003)
Taking Chances songs
$14.39 In several important respects, Blues at Midnight is what an album by a major septuagenarian blues singer should be. The production is straight-ahead and dignified, and very much in Bland's time-honored tributary about halfway between blues and soul, with plenty of organ and some brass. The songs are a little on the generic side, but they're suitable, lightly melancholy vehicles for Bland's subdued persona. While Bobby's voice sounds thinner and more weathered than it did several decades previously, as could be expected from a 73-year-old, it's still in decent, expressive shape. Where this disc falls down is in the repeated insertions of Bland's trademark tic: a full-on snort, just as blatant as someone gauchely imitating a heavy snorer. That might seem like a small thing to pick on, but if this were anyone other than Bland, no one would have allowed any of those irritating ...
