Philadelphia's Robert Hazard is best known as the writer of Cyndi Lauper's hit "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," and secondarily as the one-hit wonder behind the '80s synth-pop nugget "Escalator of Life." However, those who still associate Hazard with the era of big hair and drum machines will be surprised by TROUBADOUR. Decades down the line, Hazard has reinvented himself as a rootsy, acoustic-oriented singer-songwriter, and TROUBADOUR is full of subtle, complex lyricism and earthy, Americana-flavored production. Troubadour album
$13.45 This posthumous anthology is the perfect introduction to the astonishing vocal talents of Eva Cassidy, a young, relatively unknown singer who died of cancer at 33, just as her career was beginning to gain steam. Cassidy, a native of Washington D.C., gained local favor with her pure, straightforward tone and her lovely, tasteful interpretations of everything from standards to gospel to contemporary pop.
SONGBIRD is a definitive best-of selection that picks from Cassidy's studio albums and shows the depth and breadth of her skills. SONGBIRD's perfection as a compilation is in its song choice, which covers Cassidy's takes on gospel ("Oh, Had I A Golden Thread"), soul (Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready"), pop (Sting's "Fields of Gold"), and well-known standards ("Over the Rainbow"). Cassidy's own perfection stems from ...

| | Terri Clark Greatest Hits 1994-2004 CD (2004)
Troubadour album
$12.15 Known to some fans simply as "the girl with the hat," Terri Clark challenged the Nashville establishment in the mid-1990s by showing that a woman could play straight-up New Traditionalist country just as well as the boys, without resorting to revealing outfits and big hair. Coming off like a female Alan Jackson with a touch of Dwight Yoakam, Clark delivered her first single, "Better Things to Do" with a mix of authentic ...

| | Glenn Miller Broadcast Instrumentals CD (2007) (Import)
Troubadour songs
$13.75 With all due respect to his star vocalists Marion Hutton, Ray Eberle, and Tex Beneke, this album of 22 "Broadcast Instrumentals" weighs in with the best of the all-purpose Glenn Miller compilations. Harvested from radio airchecks recorded between March 19, 1940, and September 22, 1942, these "unsung" performances by one of America's most popular big bands accurately reflect Miller's selection and maintenance of a well-balanced repertoire, including classic jazz warhorses like "Tiger Rag," W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues," and King Oliver's "Dippermouth Blues," as well as danceable contemporary swing tunes such as Tiny Bradshaw's "Jersey Bounce" and Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump." True to form, Miller also included staid traditional fare like Stephen Foster's "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair" and military marvels like "Anchors Aweigh" and "On Brave Old Army Team." Arrangers include Eddie Barefield (composer of "Fanhat Stomp"), Eddie Durham (a crucial component of the Basie band), and Billy May (destined for a lucrative career with Capitol Records and Frank Sinatra). Excellent big band swing, strictly instrumental. ~ arwulf arwulf
In the early 1940s Glenn Miller led the finest band in the land. Most of the CD and album issues of this band have also contained vocals usually by Ray Eberle, Tex Beneke or Marion Hutton. This CD differs from the rest in that it contains only instrument

| | Holly Tucker For You CD (2009)
Troubadour album
$10.09 2008, saw the release of "For You", the second CD, from Holly Tucker, 15 year-old, country singer/songwriter, from Central Texas. The four-song project, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, in June, by producer/engineer Sean Neff, at "The Grip", the home-based studio, of Jay Demarcus, of Rascal Flatts fame, is a product of a friendship, and partnership, between Holly, and Chris K. Wommack, gifted singer/songwriter/keyboardist, who penned seven of the songs, on her first CD release, "It's About Time", also available on cdbaby. Holly performs regularly, in her region, of the country, and the experience is definitely evident, in the maturity of her voice, on this latest offering. She has a "color" in her voice that is very unique, and difficult to define, by comparing her to any other female singer. She has the power of a Martina McBride, the vocal agility of a Gary LeVox (Rascal Flatts), or Mariah Carey, the tenderness of Tricia Yearwood, and the range of Carrie Underwood. Listeners will enjoy the "sassy", but clean, "Take It Like A Man" for it's radio-ready, rockin' country sound, spiced up with a bit of girl-power attitude. As the record flows to the second cut, "Anymore" the mood changes to a tearful expression of a girl's love for her guy, even though he refuses to allow it. "You're It" will have you kickin' up your heels to a "Western Swing"-style, driving backbeat, as the smooth lyrics describe a girl with a big crush on her guy. The record closes with "All Those Happy Endings", a haunting melody that tells the story of a girl, whose broken- family situation, has her longing for the fairy-tale life she has never been able to experience. All ...
