Rhino's superlative Elmore James retrospective is essential, not only because it brings together 21 of the artist's finest sides, but because it collects those tracks from various periods (1951-1969) and labels (Trumpet, Chess, Flair, Fire, Chief, and Flashback). Musically, the album finds Dylan once again mining the stately traditionalist sound first heard on LOVE AND THEFT.
