It's impressive that Nelly has stayed consistently relevant enough to release his fifth LP in a mere eight years. But upon skirting through BRASS KNUCKLES' relatively trim 13-song set, his ongoing commercial viability is abundantly clear. Remaining resolutely pop-friendly and resting on his sex appeal (while throwing in frequent reminders of hardened machismo), Nelly leaves no demographic unturned, not to mention high-profile cameos; Akon, Ashanti, R. Kelly, LL Cool J, Pharrell, Rick Ross, and T.I. are among the album's guest stars. But it's Chuck D.'s appearance on "Self Esteem" (with its catchy, if simplistic refrain of "I think I can/I know I can) that begins to shed a more complex light on the MC who once inspired a nation of clubs to get naked with "Hot In Here."

...but it's a doozy! "Lie" is almost worth the price of the CD alone. Other than that, it seems weird to have a 30-year old (plus) nan singing about steppin on my Js.

 Why hate on Cornelly
Everybody is hatin' on Nelly because he expanded his horizons. Just because Nelly isn't rapping about killing people, selling drugs, or beating up women doesn't make him any less harder than any other 50 cent clone out there. He has come a long way doing singles with hicks like Tim Mcgraw. I like how Nelly has continued to evolve since Country Grammer. If you have an opened mind go get this album.

 WHERRE MY PARTY PEOPLE AT?
I have liked all Nelly albums prior to this one. But this was nothing like the others. There are a few bangerz on here but for the most part i could have passed on this one. But keep doing ya thang mann and reppin for tha Midwest. Much Luv & respect my dude.

Wasn't feelin it
I think he waited too long to come back, in this era u can't wait 4 yrs to put out an album. I wasn;t really feelin the album, but i thnk he should have dropped the Joint with T.I. & LL as a single...

When you think of hip hop's finest and most elite, Florida is not recognized. Enter Shiggaion, stage deep left. Going against the booty shaking rap stereo-type that Florida is known for, Shiggaion blazes fluid fire over fourteen tracks on his first album entitled The Words Of... The BeginningsGrowing up in New York in the Bedstuy area during a rich era of hip hop, Shiggaion absorbed the stylings of classic rappers like KRS One, MC Lyte, and Big Daddy Kane to name a few. Life in a Rastafarian home, brought another element to Shiggaion's music development, as bands like Third World, Burning Spear, and Dennis Brown played constantly, not to mention the touch of dancehall, and rub-a-dub music that a Jamaican youth was proned to hearing at that time. Besides the music that Shiggaion heard, and listened to, Shiggaion's parents gave him fare opportunity to interact with reggae artists. TransformationsIn 1991 Shiggaion moved from New York to Florida with his mother and siblings. Although Shiggaion's family background is one intertwined with the arts and music, Shiggaion never planned to follow music as a career. He pursued science and english, and aspired to be a biologist, but fate played a hand in which way he should go, when immigration problems didn't allow for his scholastic endeavors. At that point, Shiggaion's spiritual and musical lifes started to emerge. Listening to Digable Planet's "Where I'm From", was the turning point of Shiggaion being a listener of rap music, to Shiggaion being a giver of rap music. Shiggaion sculpted his first lyrics from the defunkt trio, and performed for the first time ever at his home church in Davie, Florida. With marginal succes at his hobby, Shiggaion pressed on writing lyrics. Fate played a hand a second time when he met an established, minor artist named, William "Sweet Daddy" Delgado. At hearing Sweet Daddy's lyrical content, and style one day at church, Shiggaion wanted to learn from what seemed like a lyrical master, and approached Sweet Daddy with the respect of a teacher student relationship.
