I'll Rise Again album
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad ...
| | R Kelly Untitled CD (2009)
I'll Rise Again CD music
$11.18 After his aborted, Internet-leaked 2008 album, 12 Play: 4th Quarter, R. Kelly busied himself with guest spots for Beyoncé, T-Pain, and Kanye West, even offering a free download on iTunes, "I Believe," inspired by the election of president Barack Obama. While such moves ensured that Kelly would never stray far from the R&B throne he's occupied for more than a decade, his 2009 reboot of 12 Play, Untitled, should provide more than enough reason for fans to keep coming back for more. From Auto-Tune-laden crowd-pleasers like "Outta the Game" and "Crazy Night" to rousing club-oriented numbers like "Echo," Kelly downplays the slower "baby-making" jams this time around for a set of largely uptempo songs, capped by a sultry collaboration with Keri Hilson ("Number One"). ~ Andy Kellman

| | Boyz II Men Love CD (2009)
I'll Rise Again songs
$12.64 The title of Boyz II Men's third consecutive covers album is only partially indicative. The love songs covered on this disc span several decades and styles, unlike Throwback (`70s and early-`80s funk and soul) and Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA (self-explanatory), both of which were more focused thematically. What ties these songs together is that they are love songs, and nothing else. That early-`60s R&B (Sam Cooke's "Cupid"), late-`90s country (Lonestar's "Amazed"), and early-`80s rock (Journey's "Open Arms," a choice likely influenced by producer Randy Jackson) are all part of the mix only hints at the randomness of the selections. Despite the range of the sources, Boyz II Men tie it all together. ~ Andy Kellman

| | Lawrence Welk Christmas Memories CD (2003)
I'll Rise Again music CDs
$10.95 The sound and overall vibe of Lawrence Welk's Christmas Memories will be familiar to fans of the famous bandleader's milquetoast variety program. Viewed through a furious, sideways eggnog hangover, the show seemed to take place in a bizarre antireality, populated by stuffed tuxedo ruffle shirts and more taffeta than an explosion at a McCall Patterns factory. It was like a WASP Def Comedy Jam. With a few swooning numbers from the Lawrence Welk Orchestra leading the merry way, Christmas Memories runs through the usual standards, and features contributions from numerous Welk ringers. The Lennon Sisters' pristine harmonies work wonders with an understated ...

| | Bang Bang Eche CD (2008)
I'll Rise Again music CDs
$6.69 Bang Bang Eche formed the day after three of the kids got arrested for LARPing in public. Centered on a mutual love for dinosaurs and cartoons, the trio began practicing across the road from a homeless shelter in big, bad Christchurch, New Zealand. After playing ten shows to sold-out crowds at local venue "Party Central," Charlie, Josh and James recruited T'Nealle and Zach as security. T'Nealle was chosen due to her notoriety in underground fighting circles and Zach was picked because he was the only person with a driver's license. Over the next few months Bang Bang Eche began fusing their bouncers into their performances and the band grew to a five piece, with T'Nealle taking up the bass guitar and Zach becoming lead sermonizer. On T'Nealle's insistence that the bang get "more brutal," the band began to write the material that became their self-titled EP. Their EP was recorded over a week in Christchurch. The first track, '4 To The Floor,' reached number one on New Zealand's college radio network almost immediately. This was the band's second number one single, with 'Nikee' reaching the spot in September 2007. 'Time Mismanagement' eventually cracked the top 5. "We think our EP is best described as a five-track foray into the 'Land Before Time' but in this movie the dinosaurs play synths and sixteenth beats, and the T-Rexes are all dancing along and shit,' collectively spoke ...
