$13.09 This Verve collection represents the diversity of Veloso's music, perhaps more so than the Tropicalia-heavy compilation A ARTE DE CAETANO VELOSO. Some of the late '60s classics such as "Soy Loco Por Ti, America" and "Superbacana" are included, as is material from the late '70s and early '80s.
This CD travels from psychedelia-tinged samba to bossa nova to Brazilian new wave. The unifying element in all this diversity is the tranquil, conversational style of Caetano Veloso's excellent vocals, which owe a ...

$20.79 Arranger: Moacir Santos.
This is a 2 cd set:You don't have to apologize if you don't know who Moacir Santos is. Many people are oblivious to the works of the arranger and songwriter, regarded by the critics and researchers as one of the most innovative talents in the history of MPB. But from now on, there are no more excuses: the album Ouro Negro, produced by musicians Zé Nogueira and Mario Adnet, is coming out. The CD (released on the Adventure Music label) features the two instrumentalists performing the sophisticated music of Santos - who is 75 years old and has lived in Los Angeles for the past 3 decades. In fact, the "secret" around Moacir Santos is not that secret. The arranger, born in Pernambuco (northeastern Brazil), is regarded as a walking encyclopedia in the realms of Brazilian instrumental music. Without hesitation, artists like João Donato, Dori Caymmi, Paulo Moura and Sérgio Mendes will testify to that statement. The late Brazilian guitar ace Baden Powell was Moacir's pupil, once, and revered his master on the song Samba da Benção. On Ouro Negro, saxophonist Zé Nogueira and guitarist Mário Adnet lined-up an all-star team, so as to reproduce the original arrangements written for the 28 instrumental pieces picked for the album. Besides the attention to the music, lyrics (written by Ney Lopes) were added to some of the originally instrumental numbers. That's where big MPB singers come in: Milton Nascimento, Ed Motta, Djavan, ...

Full Bloom album
$14.15 Jason Horowitz is an up and coming singer-songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jason got his start in public performance during his years at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He started playing open mics and house concerts and opened for New England folk scene regulars like Bernice Lewis and Bill Staines. After graduating, he moved back to the Midwest, playing the coffee shop scene in Madison and Milwaukee for two years before moving to Nashville, Tennessee. He played regularly in Nashville for five years at venues such as the legendary Bluebird Cafe, and he has opened for Mindy Smith, Jon McVey, and others. He now lives and performs in St. Paul, Minnesota.Jason traces his desire to write and sing from his summer camp experience at Camp Minikani in Hubertus, WI. "I used to watch my counselors sing and play at campfires," he says, "and I swore one day I would be like them." He taught himself to play the guitar as a teenager and began writing songs immediately. Jason's guitar style is influenced by artists such as Ellis Paul and Martin Sexton, and he commonly uses alternate tunings.Jason's songs are acoustic and lyric-driven. His songs are often personal and revealing and have been described as "powerful and heartfelt." When asked about his confessional writing, he said, "I've always believed that we have more in common than we think we do. If I write about things that are important to me, I think the chances are good that other people will relate."Jason's new album, Every Single Thing, marks a move from a contemporary folk style to folk rock. There are remnants of the campfire-like solo acoustic performances that Jason been known for in the past, but the infusion of energy from the full band parallels the change in Jason's music in moving from the Madison coffee shop scene ...
