Abra Seus Olhos songs
$11.99 (MP3 Available for Download) After helping lay the groundwork for concept albums and progressive rock with 1967's orchestra-enhanced suite DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moodies retrenched for the follow-up. They abandoned the orchestra but kept their sound as rich as before by playing a multitude of instruments themselves, including everything from sitar to cello to oboe. At the time, it was remarkable enough for these instruments to appear on a rock record, much less to be played by the band itself. The string-laden conceptual pieces of DAYS were replaced by shorter, more concise songs that leaned more toward Beatlesque pop and displayed a pronounced Eastern influence.
Graham Edge's short spoken-word pieces provide a properly arty framework for the Moodies' blend of swooping mellotron, haunting flute, and rich, multi-tracked harmonies. The slightly Hollies-ish "Ride my Seesaw," one of the band's strongest rockers, is a highlight. Flutist/vocalist Ray Thomas provides the quirky ...

| | Placido Domingo 100 Anos De Mariachi CD (1999)
Abra Seus Olhos songs
$9.89 100 ANOS DE MARIACHI won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Performance.
This masterful tenor hardly needs any introduction, with a vast discography that embraces the opera and pop worlds alike. 100 ANOS DE MARIACHI is Domingo's passionate homage to this wonderful Mexican musical tradition which, decade after decade, continues to grace innumerable celebrations. It's a lovely collection of favorites, each of which is arranged tastefully with lush, moving strings and brass that form the perfect background for Domingo's crooning.
Made classic by singers like Jorge Negrete, the spirited, up-tempo "Ay, Jalisco No Te Rajes!" should surely set couples young and old dancing, as should "Yo Soy Mexicano." Elsewhere, soft, lilting guitars conjure up bright images of old Mexico in ...
| | Van DeLecki's Ebum Shoobum Shoobum CD (1999)
Abra Seus Olhos album
$16.49 The second collaboration by North Carolina singer-songwriters Bryan Shumate (from the band Let's Get Mikey) and Jamie Hoover (leader of the glorious Spongetones) trumps the duo's fine debut, LETTERS FROM THE DESK OF COUNT S. VAN DELECKI. The band's name comes from a fabled episode of "The Andy Griffith Show."
All 13 songs--including a rocked-up cover of Bob Lind's folk-pop "Elusive Butterfly" and the unlisted "R.E.M.," which consists of nothing but that band's name repeated endlessly over jangle-pop that sounds like an outtake from RECKONING--balance on the knife-edge between invention and classic pop forms that characterizes the best power pop. As good as upbeat tunes like "Nurse Ratched" and "Diane" are, it's more low-key tracks like the AAA radio-ready "Ten Good Days" that really shine. Marshall Crenshaw and Matthew Sweet fans should take note.
The Van DeLecki's are Jamie Hoover and Bryan Shumate.Jamie has been an original member of The Spongetones for the past 27 years-as well as guitarist for Don Dixon, Marti Jones, Graham Parker, utility musician for Hootie & The Blowfish, and ...

| | Wither Breakthrough CD (2004)
Abra Seus Olhos MP3 Album
$11.39 Wither is a struggle against the dark realizations that seemed to come more and more the further we move away from our childhoods. It was the way in which it's members delt with the typical tendency to become obsessed with life's negativity. They found a certain pride in their sorrow and the will to create something musical that came with it, and when it was okay to be sad, happiness was possible. Wither is a band, a brotherhood, a shared desire to create something extra-ordinary through music. Years of evolution, experimentation and soul searching has led these 5 musicians to a sound that takes progressive rock and metal power and combines it with striking melodies and a gothic edge. It draws inspiration from such varied bands as A Perfect Circle, Evanescence, Type O Negative, Dead Can Dance, My Dying Bride, The Cure, Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden, but burns with a passion all its own. Wither sticks out, refreshingly different in the modern world of heavy music. While many bands in this genre put the focus on intensity or aggression, Wither focuses on delivering strong melodic vocals and profound lyrics framed by music that has hook, power, elegance and beauty. While it may not seem such a revolutionary idea, in the testosterone driven world of metal, elegance, to say nothing of beauty are rarely pursued so actively. Can metal be something more than its tendency, and often self proclaimed goal of pounding the listener into submission or out the door? Can a metal band possess a certain classiness? From a willingness to leave their distortion behind when the moment calls for it, to their tasteful and sparing use of guitar solos, and lyrics nearly devoid of profanity and degradation, Wither is proving it, show by show, and on their newest release, "Breakthrough". "Breakthrough" is the realization of a vastly different approach that gave birth to this band and its unmistakable sound. ...

On the other side of town Drayfus Grayson kept the nuns at bay playing sweet tunes in class on his guitar ...
