| | Bad Company Dangerous Age CD (1988)
Bricks Are Heavy album
$11.65 In the mid/late-'80s, the rock scene was hard to decipher. With an over-saturation of new bands either aping Led Zeppelin's boogie woogie metal or glam pop candy, older rock fans were left scratching their heads in bewilderment. Lucky for them, such classic rock ...

| | Jill Jack Love Hotel CD (2001)
Bricks Are Heavy music CDs
$18.99 Her name is Jill Jack. Yes, it's her real name. This singer/songwriter from Michigan is as real as anyone can be. With a voice that can go from plaintive country croon to husky rock'n'roll growl, emotionally honest songs and her own brand of friendly sexiness, Jill takes the best of American music and stirs it into a very special melting pot.It is Jill's connection to the everyday that suffuses her writing and keeps the lifeline to her audience strong and vital. "The fans I draw are the average American," Jill observes. "They're all ages, from all walks of life and backgrounds." She tells, with equal parts wry affection and humorous awe, of going into a rock club for a benefit and doing an acoustic story-ballad ("Rosie") - and then having a teary cross-dressing punk rocker come up to her and tell her how much he loved that song. So, okay; maybe they're not all average Americans...She is an artist in the tradition of songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Woody Guthrie - not so much in style as in sensibility, in the ability to tap into the archetypical American subconscious and craft songs that speak to us all. "I'm still learning who ...

$32.15 | | GATJA Through The Looking Glass CD (2006)
Bricks Are Heavy songs
$9.35 Evolving out of the disintegration of several musical endeavors in early 2001, the band GATJA was established. Since their inception, the band has taken a radical departure from the West Coast's musical manifesto by creating songs that embrace harmony, guitar solos, and memorable hook-laden choruses. The band managed to obtain a sound of their own while melding aggressive guitar driven riffs with acoustically inspired melodies that are all tied together by poignant and emotion-filled lyrics. The band's first full-length album, Paradox, recorded on a budget of one-hundred dollars in a garage has sold to fans on four continents, has garnered radio play across the United States and in at least 5 other countries. This band has managed to sell several thousand copies of their music (demos and album) by word of mouth and fans sharing their music in places they have yet to perform.Desiring to build on their past successes this band released their second album, Through the Looking Glass, in late 2006. Since then the band has embarked on an extensive promotional campaign that included radio, internet, printed media, video, and live performances to bring their new songs and album to a much broader audience.GATJA is working on a new yet to be titled album with a release date in late 2008. "The band rocks out onstage, sometimes blowing out the power and creating sparks."T. ...

$19.69 | | John Krane Doris Buzz & Friends CD (2008)
Bricks Are Heavy music CDs
$13.65 The essence of good songwriting is good story telling, which is where John Krane's "Doris, Buzz and Friends" excels. The tracks on this short but packed album spin with well-described tales of brilliant dolphins (the title track), a real proposed alternative to the nuclear bomb ("The Story of the Japanese Bat Bomb"), a girl sadly listening to bad music in a coffeeshop ("A: John Mayer"), or a child's call to her lost dog ("Shadow & Clementine").Whatever the subject, the lyrics are rich, fascinating, and at times, corny, funny, or very disquieting--even occasionally morbid, an early Randy Newman type of drunken longing. That's not to say that this is a depressing album. Far from it, in fact, as some of the tracks bounce with Beach Boys or Beatlesque melodies and odd eccentricities like overdriven synths, belches, sound effects, and harmonies. When it goes deep, it knows how to get there, but Krane is content to stay on the surface much of the time, toying with sound and lyrics to see who's really paying attention. The production is similarly mystifying. Some tracks practically sound like midi files with John's ...
