Jordin Sparks, winner of AMERICAN IDOL's sixth season, delivered her self-titled debut in 2007 with all the youthful energy she displayed on the TV program. Interestingly, JORDIN SPARKS doesn't feature the old-school style Sparks favored on ... Full Descriptionthe show. Instead, it's full of slick, contemporary R&B in the mold of Beyonce. The style choice plays well to Sparks's impressive vocal range and power, even when she doesn't invest much soul or personal flair in her performances. Despite its shortcomings, JORDIN SPARKS should still please fans who followed the singer's success on AMERICAN IDOL.
Personnel include: Jordin Sparks (vocals); Corky James (acoustic guitar, electric guitar).
Rolling Stone (pp.79-80) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "The album shrewdly positions her in hip-hop-flavored R&B..." Entertainment Weekly (p.71) - "JORDIN SPARKS is as much effervescent fun as any post-IDOL bow....Expect R&B flavored froth-pop embellished with just enough vocal flourishes." -- Grade: B+ Hide DescriptionPurchase Jordin Sparks CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Pretty Ricky Bluestars CD (2005)
Jordin Sparks album
$11.99 "Get You Right," a smooth throwback ballad from Miami outfit Pretty Ricky's debut, BLUESTARS, features a hardcore rap that name-checks 1990s groups H-Town and Jodeci. While the four youthful brothers of Pretty Ricky were likely in grade school when these artists had their hits, it's a fitting reference; the quartet's sound reveals an innate feel for the New Jack Swing sound of that time. This approach is evident in both the record's production and its raw sensuality, and the overall vibe is updated with a Dirty South sensibility.
Pretty Ricky features three rappers--Slick, Spectacular, and Diamond--augmented by the resonant voice of Pleasure, whose alluring style falls somewhere between Stevie Wonder ...
| | Carrie Underwood Some Hearts CD (2005)
Jordin Sparks CD music
$10.55 Country purists may take offense at finding American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's debut album in the country section. An unabashedly manufactured commercial product, SOME HEARTS is the sound of mainstream country in the 2000s heavily steeped in glossy pop. There's nothing downhome or roots-conscious about Underwood's voice or looks: she's the pretty blonde next door with a fine singing voice, but the powers that be have made her a country artist, and that's what the public gets.
None of this is to say that SOME HEARTS is not a good pop album. The combination of Underwood's considerable gift and the slick, spot-on production of Dan Huff and Mark Bright makes for a fine package. Even on somewhat by-the-numbers tunes (like her smash hit "Inside Your Heaven"), Underwood sings with conviction, and she does well with both the ballads and the uptempo tracks. Idol viewers and fans of artists like Faith Hill and Shania Twain will want to check this out.
Carrie Underwood: Biff Watson, Bryan Sutton (acoustic guitar); Dann Huff, J.T. Corenflos, Tom Bukovac (electric guitar); Mike Johnson, Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Jonathan Yudkin (dobro, mandolin, ...
| | Rihanna Good Girl Gone Bad CD (2007)
Jordin Sparks music CDs
$12.45 The music of Barbados-born singer Rihanna--a breezy blend of hip-hop, commercial pop, and Caribbean flavors--made her a bona fide superstar before the age of 20. Given her immediate success, one had to wonder if Rihanna would be a flash in the pan, but her third album, 2007's GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, is a winner. Interestingly, Rihanna avoids the Caribbean tinge that made her breakthrough single "Pon the Replay" a massive hit, sticking instead to more straightforward dance-pop designed for the club and the singles charts. More interesting still, she pulls it off with assurance and skill.
It doesn't hurt that heavyweight producers such as Timbaland (who contributes several tracks to GOOD GIRL) are on board, or that Rihanna is backed by the Def Jam empire. In fact, Def Jam president Jay-Z appears on the album's lead ...
| | Alicia Keys As I Am CD (2007)
Jordin Sparks songs
$15.05 The third full-length from contemporary R&B diva Alicia Keys is called AS I AM, a title that adequately reflects the album's straightforward, confessional soul-pop. Keys built her popularity making stylish, reflective, voice-&-piano music; AS I AM continues that trend, albeit in a poppier vein that balances neatly between neo-soul and adult contemporary. This is reflected in the mid-tempo grooves, songs of empowerment ("Superwoman"), and stirring ballads ("The Thing About Love").
Keys's collaborators on the album include songwriter Linda Perry, who co-wrote three of the album's tracks, and John Mayer, who twines voices with Keys on the sensual "Lesson Learned." Top-notch arrangements, which include gorgeous, retro-tinged flourishes via strings and horns, make the set shimmer, but it's the strength of the hook-heavy tunes and Keys's moving performances that make AS I AM stick. It's not the five-star album she's capable of, but it leaves little doubt that Keys is moving steadily in that direction.
Personnel: Alicia Keys (vocals, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, harpsichord, Wurlitzer organ, Mellotron, synthesizer, bass synthesizer, Moog synthesizer, string synthesizer, vocoder, programming, background vocals); Jack Splash (various instruments, programming); ...
| | Natasha Bedingfield Pocketful Of Sunshine CD (2008)
Jordin Sparks album
$12.49 In 2008 popster Natasha Bedingfield dropped a finely constructed, hook-filled effort in POCKETFUL OF SUNSHINE. Rootsy and groove-oriented, but with plenty of contemporary R&B studio polish (a combo especially evident on the reggae-inflected standout "Love Like This," featuring Sean Kingston), POCKETFUL manages to be both laid-back and glamorous at once.
Bedingfield is equally adept at breezy, catchy dance-pop (the title track) as she is at heart-tugging love ballads ("Soulmate"). Sharp productions, head-nodding beats, singalong choruses, and Bedingfield's smooth, appealing vocals make POCKETFUL go down easy, and will keep fans coming back to these tracks again and again.
Personnel: Natasha Bedingfield (vocals, background vocals); Toby Gad (various instruments, programming); J.R. Rotem, Dernst "D.Mile" Emile, Greg Kurstin, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (various instruments); ...

GREAT!!! this album is so good, that i listen to it everyday. however, i think "this is my now" is the weakest song in the album and they should have never put it in the album. these are the possible singles for me: 1.tattoo (of course, it's already released); 2.no air (sure fire hit, a great duet); 3.freeze (reminds me of "say it right"); 4.shy boy (love it!!!); 5.one step at a time (nice theme). and to the one who gave this a star, you better listen to it again because this is an album wherein you have to listen and listen to it again and again to like it!!! great job jordin!
