$16.19 Born in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, and graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Liu Fang is a very promising young pipa virtuoso now residing in Montreal (Quebec), Canada. She started learning the pipa at the age six and began an impressive performing career as a pipa soloist when she was 11 years old. She performed for festivals and concerts across China and had the honour to play pipa solo for Queen Elizabeth during Her Majesty's visit to China in 1985. She toured Japan in 1986. Liu Fang won numerous prizes at provincial and national Chinese music competitions such as the first prize for pipa at the National Youth Competition held in Sichuan in 1988. At the age of 15, she successfully enrolled into the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied the pipa under Professor Ye Xu-Ran, pipa master, educator and composer. As her second major, she also learned the zheng, a zither considered to be one of the oldest Chinese instruments. In 1993, she graduated from the Conservatory and became the pipa soloist in Kunming Music and Dance Troupe. In 1995, she travelled to Germany to perform. ...

$7.49 Yellow Then Blue is an exploratory musical project by multi-instrumentalist/composer Justin Deming. Various musical styles from Justin’s history are represented and melded together to create alchemy of experimental sound. These diverse tastes include experimental electronic, drum and bass, punk rock, prog rock, jazz, and ambient styles. “Guitar was the first instrument that I felt a strong connection to. I played and listened to a lot of punk rock music when I was a kid. Later, I matured into prog rock and then later jazz. With jazz though I decided I should put all of my energy into the saxophone. Learning the flute came later as a result of all that. Classical piano was really my first instrument but I hated the lesson/practice structure.” Justin’s music often presents huge contrasts, light-but-dark, happy-but-sad, soft-but-aggressive, fast and yet somehow ballad-like. One listener stated; “It's like the soundtrack to having a purely sublime moment amidst the chaos of the city.” The artist has said, “Over time the name Yellow Then Blue came to represent this duality that I kept noticing. Originally I picked this name because a friend of mine with synesthesia described my music as being cool because it was yellow and then blue. Now it seems even more appropriate as a title seeing as those colors are opposites in the spectrum.”Currents, the first release by Yellow Then Blue, is a four-part drum and bass suite.
