Hailing from Bristol, SeriousMusic is a collection of the South West's most promising up and coming musicians. Headed by Manchester native Hollin Jones on keyboards, programming, vocals and production, the band also features Colombian MC and frontman Mao, human drumming tornado Matt Albon and local experts Stig Manley and DJ Jinja Joe on guitar and decks respectively. With each band member having different musical backgrounds, Jones brought together a wide range of elements when writing debut album "The Heights" in his Bristol studio. His own history of playing on the Manchester indie and dance scenes of the mid 1990s was as influential as his love of underground hip hop, dub, jazz and countless other genres. The unique vocal talent and finely crafted lyrics of resident MC SpokesMao blends with the hooks and melodies woven by Jones to produce something truly new and refreshing, anunmistakably fresh sound. Written, produced, arranged and mixed by Jones with invaluable contributions from the band, The Heights is the culmination of several years of work and countless recording sessions. Incorporating a heavy dose of hip hop with funk, dub, jazz, blues and trip hop, SeriousMusic's tracks span all those styles and more. The album was mixed and mastered at Portishead's Bristol studio, and members of the legendary Bristol band were involved in its recording. SeriousMusic is an incendiary live act, drawing on the vast experience and different backgrounds of all band members. Music from the album and solo work by Jones has also been used extensively in BBC and ITV broadcasts. Hollin Jones has worked with a number of influential bands and artists and also produces and remixes for selected friends. 'The Heights' is avaliable now on CD in selected stores and digitally on iTunes, Napster, eMusic and Rhapsody. The Heights CD music
$14.55 British ambient duo Lemon Jelly debuted in a big way with the successful LEMONJELLY.KY, but as that was really a collection of their early EPs, LOST HORIZONS is their proper debut album. As such, it's a fully formed sonic statement that maintains the warm, accessible sound that is the Lemon ...
| | Enigma Mcmxc, A.d. CD (1990)
The Heights music CDs
$11.49 Perhaps this is what a techno artist would create to incite monks to dance: innocent grooves, sacred texts. Until, there enters another breathy, sensual woman with sultry French talk. By now there's a compelling dance groove, which builds for a few minutes, then finally plateaus into a space filled with dripping sounds where the beat is kept afloat by the rhythmic panting of our seductress. Gradually this grows as more instruments are added, and she continues, this time in English, with "The Principles Of Lust." Finally the panting becomes erratic, ...

| | Enigma LSD: Love, Sensuality And Devotion CD (2001)
The Heights CD music
$11.45 Among the many artists that helped inject a pan-global flavor into American pop music is Enigma (A.K.A. Michael Cretu), a German artist who brought the sound of chanting Gregorian monks to the charts with "Sadeness (Part I)," a breakout smash from Enigma's 1990 debut MCMXC a.d. The collection LOVESENSUALITYDEVOTION rounds out the rest of the '90s for Enigma with plenty of undulating rhythms and world music hybrids.
Dance beats are strung throughout this compilation and pop up on everything from the high-flying ambiance of "T.N.T. For The Brain" to the industrial clang of "Push the Limits" and the chugging "Modern Crusaders." One of Enigma's charms is the way the most unlikely elements find their way into the songs. A murmuring children's choir lightly breaks through the ...
| | Bruce Cockburn Dancing In The Dragon's Jaws CD (1979) Reissued
The Heights music CDs
$13.39 After nearly a decade spent in relative obscurity outside of his native Canada, Bruce Cockburn finally made a dent in the US market with the Top 40 hit "Wondering Where the Lions Are" from 1979's Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws. The album continues the jazz-inflected folk he had been pursuing on his past several releases, but with a heavier emphasis on the worldbeat rhythms that would play a larger part in his music in the years to come. This album is the gentler side of Bruce Cockburn, beautiful and searching, with his acoustic guitar once again at the forefront; his intricate, yet melodic patterns the perfect backdrop for his poetic ruminations on spirituality and nature. From the opener, "Creation Dream," his vision of the Earth's genesis to the meditative "No Footprints" Cockburn is overcome by the wonderment of God's work. Even amidst the "concrete vortex" and "people looking ill-at-ease," there's a sense of peace and overwhelming faith that runs throughout. Only "Incandescent Blue" (coincidentally the only song written outside of Canada) exhibits the kind of urban tension and consciousness that would become so evident in his work throughout the next decade; although he still finds a sort of respite in the chorus with its "white birds...[soaring] away free." Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws, though it can't match the sheer power of his next few releases, may be his most beautiful record, as well as an excellent culmination of his '70s work. ~ Brett Hartenbach

$21.55 KLEZTORY wins an Opus! this past February Kleztory won an Opus Prize for best CD of the Year for 2007, in the category of Jazz/World Music! Our album was nominated but it was still quite a shock when we were called up on stage to collect our prize at the Gala! You can see Photos on the web site!KLEZTORY's roots go back to 1997, when guitarist Alain Legault founded Les Gitans Sedentaires. Joined by bassist Mark Peetsma, the group performed more than two hundred shows in the following two years. In 2000, this fine tuned rhythm section was joined by the classically trained clarinetist, Airat Ichmouratov, and became known as Simha. In early 2002, with the addition of violinist Elvira Misbakhova and accordionist Henri Oppenheim, KLEZTORY became a traditional klezmer ensemble and is one of the most dynamic klezmer ensembles in Canada today.KLEZTORY has played in a wide variety of Montreal venues and in 2003 they performed over forty concerts in Quebec, however, the band credits their cohesion, their spirit and their signature sound to the experience they garnered while busking in the streets. Klezmer is the traditional music of nomadic Jewish musicians who traveled throughout Eastern Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. These musicians took inspiration ...
