| | Ryan Cramer No More Gibberish CD Ryan Cramer Discography of CDs
Ryan Cramer's first full CD adventure, No More Gibberish, is a cocktail of his experience, growth, and moods, the songs themselves built out of almost a year of personal and musical growth. Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, saxophone and synth combine with blended, thoughtful lyrics to create a unique flavor while sounding soothingly familiar. His music likens to the musicians that he draws on for inspiration, musicians like Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, and John Mayer. Clever and inspirational, his lyrics know where to go, and know how to talk to each other. Some tracks are highly instrumental, some raw with just a young man’s voice and his acoustic guitar. Born and raised in Michigan, Ryan has been living in California for a year, living and learning. The songs, written in this time frame, reflect his feelings about moving and living in California. Many songs are about being hopeful, despite the traps in life. While "Innate" is about the inevitability of actions based on natural occurrence and fate, "Ordinary Day" and "Follow Me" are songs about fighting banality and despair. Ryan's main focus in this CD is relationships, and inspiration strikes everywhere. Sometimes he sings about someone else, like in 'Candlelight', and sometimes it's about his own relationships, like in 'Did I Forget Not To Mention' and 'Time Machine'. The point is that Ryan likes to explore multiple aspects of relationships, without being repetitive. He likes in each song to grab an instance of a relationship situation, whether it is his own experience or observed, and write about it. This keeps the songs unique and personal while keeping the overall boy/girl story. While these relationship moods remain whimsical and carefree in "No More Gibberish" and "Shots" they become downright serious in "Whisper". Ryan says, "I basically wrote Whisper as a 'Will you marry me?' song for a future yet-to-be-met fiancée." The song "Good News" is the only track that goes political, reflecting Ryan's dislike for biased media and shock stories. The song "Heading Home" is fitting for a young man out on his own. Ryan describes "Heading Home" as being "about what home and family really are, and each day I'm more and more realizing the meaning of them." Finally, Ryan wraps up the CD with "The Swells". An instrumental piece set to the sound of the ocean, is meant to calm and say, "All that has been said is done. It's all ok. Just rest now." The songs themselves, Ryan hopes, tell the rest of the story. Ryan continues to write and perform, hopefully touching some hearts on the way. Personnel: Rivers . Audio Mixer: Rich Costey. Words such as "goofy" and "geeky" have long been used to describe Weezer's music, but these qualities are only one aspect of the band's sound; beneath all the humorous pop culture references and snarky attitude, Rivers Cuomo touched upon a myriad of serious topics including existential angst, aging, and sexual mores. While at first listen RADITUDE seems to be one of the Weezer's silliest albums (song titles include "The Girl Hot Hot" and "In the Mall"), there is, as usual, more than meets the ear. Even on the paean to debauchery "Can't Stop ...

$13.15 ©The Hudson Reporter 2003The basement of the Ristra Lounge on Washington Street was packed on a recent night with Hobokenite Dave Lindenbaum's friends - a group that, because of his effusive personality and songwriting talent, has come to include people who have performed with him, people who've met him, people who've met people who've met him, people who've met people who've met people who've met him, and even a homeless woman who hangs out by the PATH station. That's right - Lindenbaum was randomly spotted a few months ago helping a local homeless woman up Washington Street with her bags, smiling his usual goofy grin. He bought her dinner at McDonald's, completely unaware that a local reporter happened to be passing by.Lindenbaum likes to reach out. Usually he does it in a humorous or melodious way. When he pops into the Ristra's popular Tuesday open mic nights - a hotbed of local talent on the verge - he elicits laughs and cheers. The Friends of Dave (FoD) have learned the words to his humorous songs: "I've Got A Jewish Mom," "Let's Make Love (Even though Your Roommate's in Bed Sleeping"), and "Beer Goggles on." Sometimes, he phones his Jewish mom in Long Island from the stage. There are also running gags with the audience; for instance, whenever he mentions the number nine, his friends say "ninenineninenineninenine...""He's got some kind of charisma," a regular at the lounge said before a recent performance. The night of July 17, Lindenbaum threw a party in the Ristra's basement at 230 Washington St. to celebrate the release of a 5-track demo CD featuring three humorous and two serious songs. One hundred and thirty five fans crowded into the room.Lindenbaum had played with a band at Delaware, "Dynamite Dave and the 'Baum' Squad" ("We were rated the best band in Newark [Delaware]," he noted proudly). When on his own in Hoboken, he was looking to try out some of his original songs, but wasn't sure whom to perform with. The releaseOn July 17, the basement was packed with Ristra regulars, along with Lindenbaum's co-workers, former classmates, and neighbors from his beach house. The crowd was treated to a resounding performance in which Lindenbaum mixed original songs, cover tunes, and comedic comments. Lindenbaum played the Black Crowes' "Hard to Handle," then launched into "Jewish Mom," Sublime's "What I Got," and Lynard Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama." But he added some ad-libs. He changed one of the lyrics in "Alabama" to "Mother ----- Tony Danza" and, toward the end of another song, launched into a long spoken riff involving characters from Beverly Hills, 90210.Lindenbaum's mom, who was there ...
