Issued in early 2008, DAY TRIP finds jazz-guitar hero Pat Metheny collaborating with the top-notch rhythm section of Christian McBride (bass) and Antonio Sanchez (drums). While McBride anchors the proceedings with understated grace, Sanchez often cuts loose with busy percussive patterns, though he never steals the spotlight away from Metheny.
The versatile veteran six-stringer spins deft Wes Montgomery-like lines on "Son of Thirteen," eases into a delicate acoustic mode on "Dreaming Trees," and amps up on "The Red One," resulting in an excellent showcase of his widely renowned artistic range. While preceding Metheny releases were more ambitious (THE WAY UP) or piano-oriented (see his albums with Brad Mehldau), DAY TRIP presents the guitarist getting back to basics while losing none of his eclecticism.
Personnel: Pat Metheny (guitar).
Additional personnel: Christian McBride (acoustic bass); Antonio Sanchez (drums).
Rolling Stone (p.59) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Metheny thrives in a trio format -- the space suits his spiraling runs and the after-ring in his pointed electric sound -- and he responds here with excited improvising in the hypersamba 'Son of Thirteen' and the vintage-Wes Montgomery stroll of 'Calvin's Keys.'" Down Beat (p.82) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he inventiveness of the playing flows....[His] economical solos weave through the changes, spare on effect but rich in substance and imaginative in their contour." Q (Magazine) (p.104) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "'Is This America? (Katrina 2005)' is a particularly beautiful and atmospheric reflection on New Orleans's devastation." Mojo (Publisher) (p.101) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he sheer quality of the trio's musicianship results in a feast for the ear....DAY TRIP's pastel-hued chamber jazz offers a more intimate ambience." Day Trip
$15.65 Guitarist Pat Metheny has been working with long song forms since his career began in the 1970s. However, his 2005 release, THE WAY UP, takes the extended form to the next level. One composition split into four sections, this album just may be Metheny's most ambitious work to date.
Collaborating with longtime associates Lyle Mays (keyboards), Steve Rodby (bass), and a host of newer PMG members, Metheny embarks on a 68-minute sonic journey. Unlike a typical jazz suite, this music doesn't break down into movements; rather, the listener hears chapters, or parts, which segue seamlessly into one another. Moreover, the composition's ...

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Relishing the artistic freedom afforded by the success of WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye recorded this sultry paean to sex. Where its predecessor relied on complex arrangements, the straightforward sound of LET'S GET IT ON focused attention on its tight rhythms, strong melodies, and Gaye's expressive, nuanced singing. For sheer sensual come-on, it's hard to beat the title track, one of the finest celebrations of the joys of human chemistry ever recorded. But the self-explanatory "Come Get to This" and "You Sure Love to Ball" aren't far behind in terms of passionate execution and visceral impact.
Though LET'S GET IT ON has its reflective moments, notably the beautiful ballad "Distant Lover," Gaye's focus is on the here ...

Day Trip
$18.99 “ The great number of musical experiences we lived, and the passion for every kind of music – from jazz to country music – influenced us and enriched our musical taste and sensitivity, allowing us to create 'Westbound'.All songs have a smooth, sophisticated sound, and a lot of energy. We try to conjugate the typical skills of the smooth jazz format with our italian melodic roots.Above all, we write songs for everybody to listen and for the ones who like to travel with music.Enjoy!”Guitarist Cristian Rocco and drummer Enrico Catena began their collaboration in 2001, after more than a decade of playing, as session musicians, with various and different artists in Italy and abroad.Guitarist Cristian Rocco (Milan, Italy, 1974) graduated with distinction at CPM, prestigious music school in Milan, Italy, studying with Danilo Minotti. He attended to various clinics held by Frank Gambale, Alain Caron, Mark Levine. He recorded with Tazenda (italian folk-pop band), Roby Facchinetti (from the famous italian band Pooh), Ricky Tamaca, Brookoz (winner of Sanremo Rock 2003). He toured with several bands, among the others “JW Orchestra” (Soana, Porro, Brioschi as soloists), Lisa (Italian pop singer), Ginger Leigh, singer / songwriter from Austin, TX.Cristian is also teaching in a number of music school in Northern Italy.Drummer Enrico Catena (Brescia, Italy, 1970), played piano for 3 years when he was a kid and then began to study drums in 1987 with Joe Damiani, well-known italian drummer. He worked with several bands, playing in various festivals across Europe, as opening band at big names’ concerts, like Robben Ford, among the others. In 1996 he released, with his rock band “Velasco”, a CD for MCA / Universal Music Italy. He worked in the most important italian recording studios and appeared in many national TV shows such as Festivalbar ’99 with famous italian singer Giorgia, among the others.Enrico usually plays with independent artists from US like Tommy Womack, Patrice Pike and Ginger Leigh, whom he toured across Europe and America and he is a drum teacher in a number of music school in Northern Italy as well. But the great passion for smooth jazz, and for what Cristian and Enrico use to refer to as “the West Coast music scene”, is strong, since they’ve always been influenced during their music career by artists such as Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, David Benoit (and every production from the legendary record label GRP), so in 2003 they decide that the time to realize what has been a life-long dream and ambition has come! The Westbound debut CD “Miles away” ...
