The band was formed in summer 2001 in Bedminster (Bristol) by the two local musicians Errol Hewitt and Xavier Panades. Xavier developed the idea of internationalising the much unknown music from the Catalonian countries by recording an album ... Full Descriptionof updated covers, and an acoustic set playing covers from classic Catalan folk musicians and poets. In 2006 James Hollingsworth agreed to help record the album. However, James soon realised the talented but bizarre Xavier’s voice did not fit with the music he was trying to sing… Except for one song: “Els Amants” where Xavier’s powerful and restless voice quickly changing in mood from sweetness to anger, with effortless passion.James revealed Xavier as a unique mixture of a reciter, comedian, declaimer and singer and proceeded to point out to Xavier that this may be his real path in music art.Errol and Xavier returned to James' studio just after only three weeks and recorded in just one day the mini-album “Per que no li dius?”. Their idiosyncratic personalities and their atypical way of approaching music had already begun to develop into their unique style: A new form of transcendent music, which breaks through any musical classicism so that people can directly experience the feeling that the words are expressing, regardless of their complexity or the language in which are expressed.Their performances are a combination of two extremes working in total harmony. Errol’s unusual guitar playing is calm, mysterious and quiet, like a reversed volcano, in huge contrast to Xavier with his chaotic bursts of feeling and Rabelaisian passion. It has drawn burgeoning interest from peoples of very different cultural, class, and international background. A recent performance and interview was filmed in Bristol for TV3 (The National Catalan TV). Cultural organisations from Catalonia and Euskadi have also showed interest in the band performing at their festivals. The band is currently negotiating record and distribution deals; composing their second album with the inclusion of some special guests from the worlds of Jazz and Blues; and setting up a concert program for what looks likely to be a very busy 2007!! $15.19 So who is Nigel Hobbins? Well, firstly, he has a partner and two sons and has spent almost the last 20 years living in Whitstable, Kent UK. He was born in 1956 and was brought up in the village of Challock (pronounced Chollock) on the north downs in Kent. A rural upbringing that has had an enduring influence on him. He works mainly as a wood carver and adds to his income by turning his hand to gardening, general outside work, tutoring and music. Music has always had a big influence on him, right back to when his Granddad sang at family occasions. His Grandparents moved to Challock in the late 1890’s, his Granddad worked most of his life for the local council, looking after a stretch of road between Challock and Boughton Aluph. He was a part time gardener and cobbler, he grew and cured his own tobacco and he is remembered for his singing in the two pubs in the village. His Grandmother earned money as a charlady and at weekends she sold posies of flowers (garden & wild) to the growing traffic of people who stopped off at the Halfway House Inn on their way to and from London and the coast. Nigel’s father, uncles and aunts all had a part to play in gathering flowers locally when they were children. His father established himself as a carpenter and builder in Challock after the Second World War. His mother looked after the home and raised two other brothers and two sisters. During school holidays Nigel worked for his father for pocket money but spent most of his time playing where he should and shouldn’t have in and around Challock. Kings Wood, as far as Nigel was concerned, was his back garden. He also played football “Up The Lees” and on the “Cricket ...
