Reportedly recorded on a solar-powered 8-track reel-to-reel, the songs--which, as he explains in the liner notes, concern "making babies...and raising them"--intimately reveal Johnson's newfound family bliss. He brings to the studio his touring band of drummer Adam Topol, bassist Merlo Podlewski, and keyboardist Zach Gill, who adds piano trills reminiscent of those in Nick Drake's "Pink Moon." A laidback Cali quality brims throughout cuts such as the title track and "Hope," as producer Robert Carranza keeps the sounds present but never overbearing.
If James Taylor was the face of '70s soft rock, then pro-surfer-turned-multi-platinum singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is surely his millennial counterpart: an easy-on-the-ears commercial juggernaut that the critics dismiss with undisguised and somewhat unjustified bile. Johnson's response to his detractors is to dig in, and with SLEEP THROUGH THE STATIC, his fifth--and best--set of soulfully mellow but emphatically hooky jams, he does just that.

I love Jack Johnson's style - it's less pretentious than most in this genre. He executes this album just as well and with just as ease as his past works.

 A definete winner
Like all of Jacks works you need to appreciate the simplicity of it and feel the enjoyment that his music creates over real life stuff Keep up the great work Jack

It is an incredible album!!!
I heard it once and I was really disappointed. But I was persistent and I knew that his songs always are better when you listen to them more.
So, I listened to them everyday and OMG!!!! It is the BEST ALBUM EVER!!! Right now, I am in love with the songs Monsoon, They Do They Dont, and Losing Keys!! Everytime I listen, I cant get over how good it is and it gets better everytime!!!!!! I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!

Yep his laidback everyones friend style hasn't changed. No big suprises on this album.
I think having Static in the title is very clever, considering the amount of tape hiss an his albums

I love Jack Johnson. I was eagerly awaiting this CD. While I enjoy his mellow, happy music, I would like to stay awake also. I find the album to be a snoozer. I enjoy his uptempo songs anyway.
I was hoping for a CD with a little more life to it.
