Goin' Crazy
$14.37 Originally intended as a chronicle of Michael Jackson's possible reascension to the pop king throne by way of a massive 50-date tour, the documentary THIS IS IT became something much different when Jackson suddenly died mere weeks before its kickoff. Now a movie capturing the complicated figure in vulnerable moments during the last days of his life, THIS IS IS boasts a soundtrack comprised of the classic originals of the hits featured in the film. It also contains a new single co-written by Paul Anka and featuring Jackson's brothers on back-up vocals, as well as a variety of demos.

| | Train Save Me, San Francisco CD (2009)
Goin' Crazy
$9.58 San Francisco's Train hit the charts with a bang early in the 21st century with hits like "Calling All Angels" and "Drops of Jupiter." They began as a band that courted an alternative audience and quickly traded it -- without changing their sound much -- for a more adult fanbase with mixed results. SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO took four years to make -- remember there was Monahan's solo album in the interim -- and involved a slew of musicians (because only Monahan, guitarist Jimmy Stafford, and drummer Scott Underwood remain from the original group), four studios in the United States and England, songwriting collaborators, and even a handful of producers, though Martin Terefe gets the final credit. The truth is it's a very focused record, centering around the theme of a wandering young rocker who falls in love and wants to settle down. Ultimately however, SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO is a love song to the band's hometown.
Recording information: Sound City, Los Angeles, CA; Kensaltown Recording Studios, London, England; Fresh Kills Music, New York, NY; Hyde Street Studios, San Francisco, CA; Quad Studios, New York, NY.
Personnel: Pat Monahan (vocals); Jimmy Stafford (guitar); Scott Underwood (drums).
Audio Mixer: Mark Endert .
| | Dan Fogelberg Love In Time CD (2009)
Goin' Crazy
$11.99 Shortly before his death from prostate cancer in 2007, Dan Fogelberg completed his final studio album, locked it in a safe deposit box, and directed his wife to release it after his passing. Long considered one of the landmark artists of the `70s smooth singer-songwriter genre, the Illinois native released very little new material in his last decade, making the classic sound contained on LOVE IN TIME all the more welcome. Full of songs that could easily sit alongside his biggest hits such as "Longer Than," "Old Lang Syne," and "Leader of the Band," the album pairs Fogelberg's soothing voice and expert songcraft with just the right amount of subtle instrumental backing. "Come to the Harbor," with its jaunty strumming and electric sitar motif, sounds like Cat Stevens's "Peace Train" meets the Beatles' "Norwegian Wood," while "Sometimes a Song" is a quintessential Fogelberg love ballad, with a stick-in-the-head melody and spare, acoustic guitar-based accompaniment. A cover of Neil Young's "Birds" is dressed with gorgeous Eagles-esque vocal harmonies and serves as a poignant and chill-inducing closer, its final, and in this case literal, lyric, "it's over" seeming to echo long after the song ends. A gentle, finely crafted, and passionately performed album, LOVE IN TIME IS a career coda both satisfying and bittersweet.

| | Sarah McLachlan Wintersong CD (2009)
Goin' Crazy
$9.25 Sarah McLachlan's WINTERSONG is a holiday album, yet it eschews the sprightly, sparkly feel of most seasonal releases. Instead, McLachlan sticks to the moody, adult contemporary folk sound for which she's known, bringing a reflective, occasionally melancholy atmosphere to a range of popular and traditional Christmas favorites. McLachlan's choice of covers is especially enjoyable; between her personal takes on "Greensleeves" and "Silent Night," she wedges emotive readings of songs by Gordon Lightfoot ("Song for a Winter's Night"), John Lennon ("Happy X-Man (War is Over)"), and Joni Mitchell ("River"). The blend of acoustic ...
| | Band CD (1969) Remastered
Goin' Crazy
$12.05 Initially renowned as Bob Dylan's backing group, the Band emerged from the singer's shadow to proclaim a distinctive talent. Drawing upon a musical canon embracing soul, country, folk and rock `n' roll, the quintet created a unique sound that was quintessentially American. Its rustic qualities were enhanced by principle songwriter Robbie Robertson who created vistas suggestive of a pre-industrial age, and as such, captured the restlessness of the late 60s without the need for explicit manifestos. Expressive singing, sublime melodies and telepathic musicianship instils The Band with quality, but its adult themes and perspectives ensure an absolute timelessness. An all-time critics' favourite.
Recorded in Hollywood, California in 1969.

| | Chicago Transit Authority CD (1969) Remastered
Goin' Crazy
$5.99 Master Sound releases are 24-karat gold CDs remastered from first-generation masters. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's revolutionary "Super Bit Mapping" system.
This debut has surprisingly endured, whereas all their following 18,000 albums with the same title (other than a number change) have little or no credibility in the public's memory. This album can be interchanged with the second and third Blood Sweat And Tears album; all represent the very best of late 60s American jazz/rock. The band changed their name soon afterwards as they ploughed a successful path into smooth AOR. Lengthy tracks such as "South California Purples" and their excellent cover version of Spencer Davis Group's "I'm A Man" prove beyond doubt that these chaps can really play. Maybe they were smarter than most in seeing the limitations of jazz/rock and moving on to play Russian roulette.
