| | Sri Krishna Antha Sai CD Sri Krishna Discography of CDs
A couple of my friends asked me why Shabdalayam (and me) wanted to make this Album at a point when digital distribution and the prospect of illegal downloads is hovering in every distributor's mind. To all of us at Shabdalayam, including Sri Krishna, "Antha Sai" is our tribute to our spiritual father (baba) and guru - Shiridi Sai Baba, who taught us how to focus, to persevere, to remain effective and to never ever give up on looking inward. One of the greatest Sufi Saints to ever walk the face of the earth, Sai baba, helped his followers understand that there are grey levels between complete consciousness and death and that a true spiritual journey involves abnegation of attachment to any popular religion or faith, simply because each individual is different from the other. He was probably one of those rare gems that could not be classified to this date as either a Hindu or a muslim. He is a miracle of his own right and his life story is a living testament to his beliefs. Few people would believe, in years, that such a man even walked of the face of this earth. Sai baba, as a Guru, remained in his rags and begged on the streets and cooked for people in his Masjid and, at no point, could be doubted for his unique journey of understanding and delivering spiritual wisdom to people of all walks and faiths of humanity. To me, this album remains special not just because I would love to continue to promote new and upcoming artists like Sri Krishna, Nitya, Hema Chandra and Varada Raju but also because I believe in the spirit of Baba's teachings of religious 'in'tolerance, of finding the true purpose of our spirit as felt from deep within and of Shradha (Faith, Focus, Devotion) and Saburi (Patience). $13.35 Ceu's second album, VAGAROSA, arriving four years after her debut, finds her sticking to the style that first brought her to the attention of the world music and hipster-lounge communities. She's still mixing the relaxed grooves of her native Brazil with those of downtempo/trip-hop acts like Thievery Corporation; still throwing in surprisingly capable reggae grooves ("Cangote," the first full song on this CD, boasts a deep dub bassline and some extremely haunting organ); and still multitracking her vocals into a conversation. It's a lilting yet heady blend that she pulls off with an utter confidence that's fascinating in such a young artist.

$10.65 Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (2001, Sterling Sound, New York, New York)
Bob Marley And The Wailers' seventh studio album finds the masterful Jamaican singer turning his attentions away from purely domestic Caribbean matters to the African continent. His songs had previously often cited Africa as both an influence and a final spiritual destination for Rastafarians; RASTAMAN VIBRATION's "War" had even named a laundry list of aggrieved nations struggling for freedom. But with SURVIVAL's "Africa Unite," and "Zimbabwe" in particular, Marley focuses for the first time both on solutions to the struggle, and on a specific nation and its fight against oppression--all to the Wailers' characteristically irrepressible skank.
"So Much Trouble in the World" is an apt scene setter for an overtly political album worldwide in its ...

$9.09 Assembled here are just the kinds of mambos, rumbas, and cha cha cha's that set '50s bandrooms on fire and ushered in a true golden age of Cuban dance music. With only a couple of exceptions, the tracks were cut specially for the film and as such, add a novel, sweet sense of self-awareness to this classic soundtrack. Even when set apart from the thrilling cinematography of THE MAMBO KINGS, the music easily conjures joyful images of dancers tearing up the dance floors of New York City ...

Antha Sai album
$20.19 Any reasonable music fan would be forgiven for being wary of a collection of American folk music whose executive producer was former attorney general Janet Reno, but as it happens Reno knows more about such things than one might expect. At the very least Reno had the good judgment to suggest singer, songwriter and activist Ed Pettersen coordinate an album of songs that reflected different aspects of American history, from the colonial period to the present day. Pettersen's long gestating project, Song of America, has finally surfaced as a hefty three-CD set, featuring 50 songs from as many artists, and the final product is frequently fascinating and ambitious stuff, music that demonstrates how art mirrors our history and how that art can carry its message in a broad range of interpretations. Pettersen, co-producers David Macias and Bob Olhsson, and their cast of singers and musicians are clearly mindful of the message and context of these songs, but they don't insist on treating them with kid gloves; the discordant horns on John Wesley Harding's "God Save the King" boldly reflects the chaos of the Revolution, Danielson's interpretation of "Happy Days Are Here Again" is at ...
