| | Dub Trio Another Sound Is Dying CD Dub Trio Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Inspired equally by metal and classic dub, Dub Trio combines its influences in novel and exhilarating ways. ANOTHER SOUND IS DYING, the trio's third studio outing, continues the heavy instrumental explorations of earlier efforts, pushing the musicians' progressive tendencies and packing even more of a punch. The technical prowess of bassist Stu Brooks, drummer Joe Tomino, and guitarist D.P. Holmes is on full display from the skull-crushing opener, "Not for Nothing," to the herky-jerky pummel of "Funishment." Experimental rock icon Mike Patton makes a star cameo on vocals, but it's the collaborative muscle of the core trio that makes ANOTHER SOUND IS DYING such a consistent treat. The album comes recommended to all fans of experimental metal.

Alternative Press (p.156) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's a magnetic quality to 'Mortar Dub' that simply cannot be ignored....[They are] indeed giving birth to a stirring new noise." Global Rhythm (Publication) (p.46) - "Dub Trio come on like a slightly Rasta-influenced Helmet, spitting out precision, math-y riffing when they're not dialing everything back into nearly legit old-school dub." Another Sound Is Dying album
$10.69 Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains: Les Claypool (bass guitar); Brain (drums); Buckethead, Bernie Worrell.
Even hardcore Primus fans often wondered what vocalist/virtuoso bassist Les Claypool would sound like outside the confines of that band. Claypool first answered the question with all-star band Oysterhead, and then with this album, which pairs him with enigmatic guitarist Buckethead, P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell, and former Primus drummer Brain. (These three have also been involved in the avant-garde supergroup Praxis.)
Of course, with musicians of this diversity and caliber, THE BIG EYEBALL IN THE SKY draws liberally from funk, speed metal, jazz fusion, hip-hop, dance, reggae, and punk without regard for boundaries or categories. Surprisingly, considering that Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains began as an impromptu jam session at the ...
| | Peeping Tom CD (2006)
Another Sound Is Dying CD music
$13.19 An album literally years in the making, PEEPING TOM is the brainchild of the amazingly prolific and adventurous vocalist Mike Patton, former frontman of the alternative-rock ensemble Faith No More. Following his departure from FNM in the late 1990s, Patton immersed himself in a variety of noise/metal projects including Fantomas and Tomahawk, as well as avant-garde solo outings, tinkering with more accessible pop/rock tunes in his free time. This 11-track disc is the result of ...

| | Tomahawk Anonymous CD (2007) Digipak
Another Sound Is Dying album
$13.59 Love him or hate him, there are few musicians more insatiably curious than Mike Patton. He maintains numerous projects and churns out records at a furious clip, each one drastically different from the next. In Tomahawk, he has finally found bandmates willing to change with him, as ANONYMOUS, their third full-length, clearly demonstrates a departure from previous outings. With a stacked lineup of metal all-stars including ex-Jesus Lizard guitarist Duane Denison and John Stanier from Helmet, Patton delivers one of his oddest yet most satisfying listens since the Faith No More days.
Based on "anonymous" late-19th-century transcripts of Native American songs and chants, the album finds Tomahawk reimagining ...
