Mister Chill'R is a computer musician, composer, arranger and producer, who creates chillout, downtempo, and ambient electronica. Using Ableton's Live, Sony's ACID and Sound Forge, he crafts songs using loops, samples, MIDI files and a host of software plugins in his home studio in the Pacific Northwest.As a software music production student at the famous Spun Academy in Portland, Oregon, Mister Chill'R is honing and enhancing his knowledge and skills at the feet of the world famous psytrance master, Epsylon (A.K.A. Brennan Murphey: metakinetics.com). Not only is Epsylon his primo pedagogue, but also his music production partner who produces, mixes and masters Mister Chill'R's songs and albums. He ain't too shabby a graphics artist either. The results of his artistic handiwork you see here.No newcomer to the computer music scene, Mister Chill'R has been at it for over 20 years, starting out on a little Apple Macintosh. Along the way he taught himself music notation and theory, composition and arranging, audio and MIDI sequencing and editing. He has composed many songs over the years and with Epsylon's talented help, some of these songs are what you hear on this page and on his just released album, "Alien Unfolding." With 2007's Theory of Machines, composer Ben Frost combined academically constructed electro-acoustic music, doom metal, post-rock drones, and minimal classical touches with strings and piano. It was a difficult yet clearly intoxicating listening experience. The melding of clinical technology and human elements -- i.e., real instruments -- as a way of bringing the listener in made it nearly unbearable, but so utterly original that it compelled one to engage it. The only act close to this was Coil at their early best. By the Throat is, if anything, even more so, though the manner of construction is very different -- even if many of the same elements are used. This time the approach -- which is clear by the title and the pack of wolves in a snowstorm on the cover -- is in reverse. On By the Throat he uses far more organic textures as a base, whether they be from animal or human worlds, layering electronics and other effects atop them.
