A deceptively full-bodied solo project, Avantasia is the brainchild of German heavy-metal composer Tobias Sammet of Edguy. Given that he's referred to as a "composer", it should come as no surprise that Sammet's latest is a fusion of classical bombast and wailing power metal. While songs such as "Another Angel Down" are recognizable as straight up headbanging fodder, the title track personifies Sammet's ambitions with eleven minutes of rustic folk violin and crashing symphonic grandeur. Sammet's SCARECROW is the night at the opera Queen only dreamed of.
Composer: Sascha Paeth.
Avantasia: Tobias Sammet (vocals, bass guitar); Sascha Paeth (guitar); Eric Singer (drums).
Personnel: Amanda Somerville, Jorn, Alice Cooper, Michael Kiske, Oliver Hartmann, Bob Catley (vocals); Henjo Richter, Kai Hansen, Rudolph Schenker (guitar); Michael "Miro" Rodenberg (keyboard).

WELL THIS STUFF IS GREAT!!I AM AN 80'S METAL LOVER AND THIS REALLY TOOK ME TO A TIME WHEN I WOULD LISTEN TO THIS KIND OF HEAVY METAL,THAT NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE MAKE THESE DAYS,THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE COMBINATION OF POWER,HEAVY AND EVEN POP ROCK.ERIC SINGER'S DRUMMMING IS SUPERB AND THE INCLUSSION OF ALICE COOPER AS A GUEST SINGER BLOWS ME AWAY EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO IT.IF YOU CAN GET IT,GET IT!!!! This is KILLER This is a killer album,it has moments of Iron Maiden on it especially the JORN sang "another angel down" and "devil in the belfry". Jorn also sounds amazing with tobia on "the scarecrow" which is a epic song. The Alice Cooper sang "the toy master" is one of the best songs Cooper has done in years. "Lost in space" has a radio friendly Bon Jovi sound to it and is pretty cool. Submitted by cutter (mo. usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
It's definitely Different... I have listened to his previous Avantasia cd's and I was hoping/expecting for the next cd to at least answer the question: Where is Anna Held? Is she alive? What happens to her? Since he makes it his quest in the first cd and then in the second also to find her, yet never does....
So here comes "Scarecrow"....a different story set in a different time with Wonderful musicians and Awesome music and lyrics. I think it's great....
But it feels as if Tobias Sammet had to get this out of his system....sort of like a creative surge taking hold of him...I like this cd. I am just still waiting for a response to the first 2 Avantasia cd's. I'd really like to know what happens to the Protagonist in the story and Anna Held. New Jersey prog-metal stalwarts Symphony X return with PARADISE LOST, their first outing since 2002's THE ODYSSEY. Their literary aspirations remain intact--the album is inspired by the John Milton epic poem of the same name--and per usual, Michael Romeo's Byzantine tablature and Russell Allen's vocals are the main attractions. Throughout PARADISE LOST the band fantasizes that all '80s thrash and '90s doom metal did not happen, and that they are picking up right where Randy Rhodes and Yngwie Malmsteem left off in the early 1980s. In their vision, technical dexterity and neo-classicism--note the inclusion of a string section and piano balladry--trump mathy angst, satanic sludge, and stoner riffage.
Symphony X: Russell Allen (vocals); Michael Romeo (guitars); Michael Pinnella (keyboards); Michael Lepond (bass guitar); Jason Rullo (drums).

$15.99 "I Stand Alone" (Godsmack) was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Hard Rock Performance.
This album features a staggering 16 bands of the heavy rock/nu-metal persuasion assaulting the senses with eardrum-decimating aural aggression. Oh yeah, it also happens to be the soundtrack to the cutting-edge film THE SCORPION KING. Whether or not you see the movie, the accompanying disc definitely stands up on its own. Things get off to a bone-crushing start with the pounding riffs of Godsmack's "I Stand Alone." System of a Down's RATM-influenced "Streamline" delivers the requisite mix of melody and thrash. Ozzy Osbourne, one of the men who started all this, collaborates with disciple Rob Zombie on the gothic metal of "Iron Head." Rather than ending with some melodramatic elegy, THE SCORPION exits on an appropriately energetic note with the growling rage of Coal Chamber's "Glow," putting a properly spleen-venting cap on this unrelenting soundtrack.
