For George Clooney's 2008 football comedy, LEATHERHEADS, the renowned actor/director enlisted revered songwriter Randy Newman to compose a largely instrumental score that reflects the movie's 1920s setting. Consisting of brief jazzy numbers (see the jaunty, horn-heavy "Dodge"), the collection is ideal for fans of ragtime and swing music, as well as admirers of the nostalgic, good-natured film.

Leatherheads Soundtrack
$11.99 This is a collection of Spanish and American songs by Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury and opera singer Montserrat Caballe.
With Barcelona, Queen singer Freddie Mercury realized his long-lived dream of performing with an opera singer; in this case, Montserrat Caballe. While it's certainly a treat for any fan of Mercury's to hear this album, it's a difficult record to recommend. Most fans of opera will probably find it far too simplistic and pop-based, while many rock fans are sure to find the record too classical. The first half of the album, however, is deserving of a spin for any open-minded listener. Consisting of semi-operatic melodies with grand production, songs like "Barcelona" and the Eastern-sounding "La Japonaise" are startling in their beauty; the two singers from opposite ends of the music spectrum working surprisingly well off each other. The most classically operatic pieces of the project, "Ensueno" and "The Fallen Priest," are alternately gorgeous and powerfully dramatic. ...

Leatherheads Soundtrack
$17.49 The title of this television-advertised compilation may be arrogant, but then the tango is not a dance for the shy and retiring. Whether or not it is, as it claims, The Best Tango Album in the World, Ever!, the two-disc set, containing 30 tracks and running a little less than an hour and a half, does feature some major performers of the music, notably Carlos Gardel, renowned as the father of the tango, heard performing "Volver" and the concluding vocal version of "Mi Buenos Aires Querido," and Astor Piazzolla, who used the tango as a vehicle for composing modern classical music, heard performing "La Rayuela." Other notable performers include Carlos Garcia & His Orchestra, heard on four tracks, Sexteto Mayor, Florindo Sassone & His Traditional Orchestra, and Alfredo de Angelis & His Traditional Orchestra. (If the casual ...

Leatherheads Soundtrack
$6.29 Jewel was nominated for the 1997 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Who Will Save Your Soul" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
When this Alaskan decided to give up her day job and move into her Volkswagen van in 1993, she began an almost storybook ascendance to the upper echelon of singer-songwriters. Like so many other aspiring musicians with a guitar and a story to tell, Jewel is a keen observer of human behavior. But it is her voice, a classically-trained instrument that has developed far beyond Jewel's 22 years, that makes her debut album--much of which was recorded at Neil Young's Broken Arrow ...
