Recorded live in Japan, the TOKYO DAY TRIP EP finds guitar wizard Pat Metheny working with the supernova rhythm section of drummer Antonio Sanchez and bassist Christian McBride. There's plenty of stretching out and variety on the five tracks here. "Traveling Fast" speeds along with post-bop facility, "Inori" reveals Metheny's magic on acoustic guitar, and "Back Arm & Blackcharge" tackles rock-edged fusion. These recordings were previously available only as digital-only downloads and this CD release marks the first time that they've been brought together under one cover.

5 stars Three Jazz Masters Performing Live At Their Best!
I gave this review five stars to counter the first reviewer who gave only one. It simply deserves more. Pat Metheny is one of a handful of guitar innovators currently on the scene (Bill Frisell would be another) that has changed the face of jazz guitar playing. This is a great live trio recording that also includes the incredible bass playing of Christian McBride and the percussive stylings of drummer Antonio Sanchez. Even though this is listed as an EP, one still gets well over thirty minutes of music. These three musicians are at the top of their game and lovers of fine music will have much to savor within these sonic excursions of jazz improvisation. Recommended!
