| | Cyndi Lauper Bring Ya To The Brink CD Cyndi Lauper Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Although Cyndi Lauper has released only three albums of new material since her 1980s heyday--1992's underrated HAT FULL OF STARS, 1997's SISTERS OF AVALON, and 2004's SHINE--she has never slowed down, maintaining a near-constant presence on the concert circuit. As her retro cohorts the B-52's, Donna Summer, and Madonna all release new albums that consciously look back to their earlier hits for inspiration, Cyndi Lauper went in the opposite direction for BRING YA TO THE BRINK, releasing an album entirely unlike anything else she has previously done. Recorded in collaboration with a number of hot dance producers and mixers, BRING YA TO THE BRINK is a tough, sexy collection of sleek electronic dance songs more in keeping with modern trends in club tunes than with those girls who just wanna have fun like they did back in 1984.
Personnel: Cyndi Lauper (vocals); Richard Morel (guitar, keyboards, programming); William Wittman (guitar, bass synthesizer); Knox Chandler (guitar); Dave Finnell (trumpet); Craig Considine (trombone); Steve Gaboruy, Dan Kurtz, Steve Gaboury (keyboards); Roger Fife (synthesizer); Sammy Merendino (drums); Martina Sorbara (background vocals).
Audio Mixers: Basement Jaxx; Jeremy Wheatley.
Rolling Stone (p.72) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Lauper teams up with pop-song doctors from the studio of Max Martin and electro wizards including Basement Jaxx and the Scumfrog for an album of club throb." Entertainment Weekly (p.67) - "Here, the singer finally jumps back onto the dance floor....Lauper's distinctive squeak of a voice fits most comfortably over a dizzy, twisting beat from Britain's ever-inventive Basement Jaxx." -- Grade: B Blender (Magazine) (p.73) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "'Set Your Heart' cures depression with steadfast friendship....Lauper hasn't sounded this relevant since her 1983 debut..." Bring Ya To The Brink album
$7.59 Beneath the kooky persona she has projected in the past, Cyndi Lauper is a nice New York City girl with quite a set of pipes. AT LAST finds her revisiting the music she heard growing up in Ozone Park section of Queens and paying tribute to these songs by way of unique arrangements. Going beyond the typical route of solely dipping into the great American standards songbook, Lauper casts her net far and wide, coming up with material associated with Dionne Warwick, the Animals, and Edith Piaf.
Among her more imaginative renditions are the ska-fueled run through "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and the Latin-flavored treatment of Maurice Williams' "Stay," featuring help from Sheila E. and a delightfully ...
| | Neil Young Prairie Wind CD (2005)
Bring Ya To The Brink CD music
$9.75 Neil Young always seems to be making a comeback, but detractors who have diligently panned his releases from the 1990s and 2000s (and sometimes with good reason) will be forced to change their tune with 2005's PRAIRIE WIND. A plaintive, thoughtful, country-rock album that recalls both 1992's HARVEST MOON and 1972's HARVEST, PRAIRIE WIND is Young's strongest, most focused, and most compulsively listenable studio album since 1989's FREEDOM.
The most striking characteristic of the album is its mood, which is heavily nostalgic, melancholy, and, lyrically, full of reflections on memory, loss, and mortality. (The passing of Young's father and his own experience with a brain aneurysm seem likely influences ...
| | Cyndi Lauper Body Acoustic CD (2005) DualDisc
Bring Ya To The Brink music CDs
$16.69 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
1980s pop icon Cyndi Lauper updates the sound of each of her signature songs on this 2005 collaboration-heavy release. The quality of Lauper's catalogue serves to remind listeners that she was much more than an MTV flash-in-the-pan. As the title suggests, the instrumentation is largely acoustic, yet the songs sound as energized as ever, especially cuts that provide unexpected surprises, like the Shaggy cameo on the countrified reading of "All Through the Night."
Sarah McLauchlan lends her voice to the always-lovely "Time After Time," Vivian ...
| | Sarah Brightman Symphony CD (2008)
Bring Ya To The Brink songs
$15.79 Having solidified her DIVA status with the collection of the same name, Sarah Brightman returned in 2008 to reinforce that reputation with SYMPHONY. A dramatic offering that leans in a more rock-oriented direction, the album finds the British classical/pop crossover pairing up with both usual suspects--Andrea Bocelli on "Canto Della Terra"--and unlikely partners--Paul Stanley of Kiss on "I Will Be with You (Where the Lost Ones Go)"--for a fittingly orchestral set. Although the soprano singer ...
| | Sheryl Crow Detours CD (2008)
Bring Ya To The Brink album
$11.45 More than 14 years after her lauded debut, Tuesday NIGHT MUSIC CLUB, Sheryl Crow reunited with that breakthrough album's producer, Bill Bottrell, for her 2008 outing, DETOURS. While both records are accomplished and willfully dynamic, DETOURS is the sound of someone who's been through a real emotional wringer, and, indeed, Crow had, having battled breast cancer, split from beau Lance Armstrong, and adopted a baby all shortly before these studio sessions.
The resulting tracks play to Crow's strengths as both a singer and a songwriter--while the spare, lo-fi opener, "God Bless This Mess," and the achingly tender closer, "Lullaby for Wyatt," highlight her emotive, slightly ...
| | Alanis Morissette Flavors Of Entanglement CD (2008)
Bring Ya To The Brink CD music
$15.79 Four full years after 2004's SO-CALLED CHAOS, Canadian pop star Alanis Morissette finally returned with a new studio album, FLAVORS OF ENTANGLEMENT. While the former outing was informed by the ever-confessional performer's romance with Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, this '08 offering deals with the dissolution of that relationship, particularly on the piano ballad "Not As We" and the wistful techno track "Moratorium." The latter tune, like much of FLAVORS, is shaped considerably by U.K. producer Guy Sigsworth, who is best known for aiding Bjork with ...
| | Jaci Velasquez Mi Corazon CD (2001)
Bring Ya To The Brink music CDs
$8.99 MI CORAZON was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
After singing at President George Bush's inaugural ceremony, Jaci Velásquez went into the studio to start working on Mi Corazón, including a romantic ballad called "Cuando Se Cura Una Herida," produced by Rudy Pérez, and the Latin up-tempo "Vaya Con Dios," leaving behind allegations of abandoning her Christian faith by signing up to a secular company. Billboard Music Award-winning Jaci Velásquez teamed up with writer/producer Desmond Child to get ...

| | Lisa Biales Come To Me CD (2007)
Bring Ya To The Brink album
$17.09 Lisa's third album of original music produced by Nashville "Kitten" Gary Scott, starts out with the title cut "Come To Me" a bluesy country sound that slides right into "Whistles And Bells" an introspective song with a dreamy violin solo by Doug Hamilton. "Smoking Section" is about a girl that tries to catch the eye of the Best Man at her friend's wedding. The fun ...
