Though the band name and title might lead you to think it's a porn rock album or some such thing, the Mother Truckers' Let's All Go to Bed is the kind of good-time roots rock that many listeners associate with the music scene of the group's Austin, TX base. There's a lot of country in their sound, as well as some folk and raunchy bar band rock, more often than not executed with a grinning, upbeat delivery. The female-male harmonies of Teal Collins and Josh Zee do much to distinguish them from the many other bands, from Austin and elsewhere, in roughly the same boat. For the most part, however, it's rather typical fare for the genre, though that's hardly a bad thing. It's admirably varied and eclectic, from honky-tonkish stompers (though these fall short of being so vicious as to be cowpunk) and the "Honky Tonk Women"-styled "Streets of Atlanta" to fairly tuneful, delicate ballads that give Collins the spotlight. ~ Richie Unterberger
Dynamite! "Dynamite" is the title of the first track, and it describes itself and all the tracks that follow. A little bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd sound, a little Lone Justice; a lot of good, hard rocking country with great musicians and Teal Collins' outstanding vocals make this CD a "must have." A Little Too Country Not really a bad album, but a little too country for my taste. I got it for my wife and she is OK with it. Submitted by gsebald (Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
