Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition album
$18.38 Leonard Cohen has mentioned several songs that shaped his particular musical vision in various interviews over the years, and this interesting 25-track set collects a bunch of those together. The result is a fascinating blueprint for Cohen's creative template, and all of these selections make a kind of sense in that regard. And it's a varied group, with songs as different as the traditional "Careless Love" (featured here in a version by Josh White), Frankie Laine's huge-sounding "Jezebel," ...
| | Randy Newman 12 Songs CD (1970) Gold
Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition CD music
$19.49 Newman began his career as a contract songwriter, before embarking on a recording career renowned for sardonic wit. On this, his second album, the singer opted for simple accompaniment, his ragged voice and stylized piano supported largely by a crisp backing group that included Byrds guitarist Clarence White. Superb melodies were matched by an intense lyricism that embraced sometimes disquieting images previously unheard of in rock. Cynicism, bitterness and sexual perversion are unleashed ...

| | Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Beat The Devil's Tattoo CD (2010) Digipak
Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition songs
$11.18 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's 2010 album, Beat the Devil's Tattoo, finds the band splitting the difference between the rootsy Americana of 2005's Howl and the return to fuzzed-out noise rock that was 2007's Baby 81. Having once again parted ways with original drummer Nick Jago, bassist Robert Levon Been and guitarist Peter Hayes seem to have found a renewed creative spark with replacement drummer Leah Shapiro. Shapiro comes to the fold with strong noise rock credentials, having been a member of the punk-psych N.Y.C.-based Dead Combo and touring with the Raveonettes. With an overall sound that seems inspired by a searing mix of old-timey blues mixed with a hypodermic blast of melodic noise, there is a driving, wild-eyed intensity to many of the tracks on Beat the Devil's Tattoo. From the opening death-ballad title track and the gospel-meets-Madchester "Conscience Killer," the stoned robot funk of "War Machine," and the blissed-out acoustic folk ballad "Sweet Feeling," BRMC are in top form. But if you're looking for gutting-jet-engine lift-off, the cosmically epic, sanguine rock anthem "Bad Blood," with its repeated chorus of "I can see it in your eyes and now it's gone" is, like the ...
| | Ten Years After Space In Time CD (1971)
Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition album
$7.99 A SPACE IN TIME was Ten Years After's biggest commercial success. The reasons are pretty obvious; Alvin Lee's songwriting had improved markedly and there was far more stylistic variety than on their previous albums.
The big hit here was "I'd Love to Change the World," with its catchy acoustic guitar hook and the immortal opening line, "Everywhere is freaks and hairies." Other highpoints include: "Baby Won't You Let Me Rock ...
| | Train Save Me, San Francisco CD (2009)
Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition CD music
$11.29 San Francisco's Train hit the charts with a bang early in the 21st century with hits like "Calling All Angels" and "Drops of Jupiter." They began as a band that courted an alternative audience and quickly traded it -- without changing their sound much -- for a more adult fanbase with mixed results. SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO took four years to make -- remember ...

Toshiyuki Koike's Exhibition songs
$9.95 The son of noted reggae singer Jimmy Riley, Tarrus Riley made waves in Jamaican music scene with his 2004 debut, CHALLENGES, on the indie label Ya Man Music. With strong dancehall roots but also informed by a taste for pop, rock, and soul, Riley's sound quickly won over fans in Jamaica and abroad. Four years later, VP records reissues Tarrus Riley's exceptional first album with two bonus tracks--"Love Created I" and "Save the Children."
