| | Northern Cree Singers Red Rock CD Northern Cree Singers Discography of CDs
Northern Cree Singers is a group from Canada that specializes in traditional Native American music, particularly of the frantic drum-and-chant-based powwow type. RED ROCK, a live performance, proves how electrifying the Northern Cree singers can be. Driven by incessant tribal drum lines, the songs on RED ROCK are intense enough to raise hair on the back of most listeners' necks. Screams, yelps, and ululations are unleashed over galloping beats, invoking at once the powerful tradition of the Native American people and something even deeper: the communion between the human spirit and the world at large.

Red Rock
$15.05 An ambitious world fusion project, SIWAN brings together the Norwegian pianist Jon Balke, Moroccan singer Amina Alaoui, the Early Music ensemble Barokksolistene, minimalist trumpeter Jon Hassell, and others in a cross-cultural melange that imagines itself somewhere back in the medieval times of Andalusia, during the era when Spain was dominated by Muslim rule. With the expert help of Barokksolistene (Baroque solists), Balke has composed authentically evocative, Arabic-flavored settings for medieval Christian and Muslim poetic texts, fluently sung by Alaoui who sometimes resembles a serene flamenco singer or, better, a New Age descendant of the great Egyptian diva Oum Kalsoum. Hassell's horn is given ample solo space along with the Algerian violinist Eddine M'Kachiche; they both improvise against the expert zarb (Iranian hand drum) playing of Pedram Khavar Zamini. It's a heady mixture all around, and beautifully produced by ECM founder Manfred Eicher once again. The winning message is that these cultures mingled and fertilized each other in the past ...

$16.45 I am 55 years old from New York. I have been living in Israel as a citizen since 2003. I have been singing, writing, performing, and fronting original/copy bands since 1971. By the mid seventies we were headlining at some of the top clubs in Manhattan, "Folk City'" and "CBGB's", and "My Fathers Place," the top club on Long Island. I opened up for Tom Paxton in 1975 and Al Kooper in 1983. I came close to a record deal a few times but never popped. I became a National Recording Artist in the late 1980's with a National TV/Cable jingle for Wylers "Fruit Slush" and I did local New York jingles after that. Around that time I left music and devoted my time to learning what it means to be a Jew. The 10 songs on the CD are some answers I found. Since 1985 I have been trying to live a life of traditional Torah Judaism. I am still looking for a wife ...
