For LAST DATE, recorded in a series of California honky-tonks during 1982, Emmylou Harris set out specifically to cast her Hot Band as one of the world's great country outfits. Harris wanted to make an all-covers live album that would capture the spirit of honky-tonk as she saw it, and here she sings a variety of endearing country tunes revolving, not surprisingly, around love.
Among the best are Don Everly's ballad, "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)," Carl Perkins' bluegrass number, "Restless," Bruce Springsteen's novelistic "Racing in the Street," and Neil Young's country rocker/car anthem, "Long May You Run." LAST DATE expresses Harris's vision of what country music should sound like; the public responded well to this concept. LAST DATE stayed on the Billboard charts for thirty-two weeks in 1982, peaking at number nine.

and the band is always tight. well this
one live album which could easily be a
studio release. the sound quality is
excellent. you can feel the energy which went into this release. this is
a live release with new songs which
could easily fit into a studio release.
but being live is what makes this so
great

This CD is actually worth double its price. That's because it contains some of Emmylou's best work with the legendary Hot Band. I played the hell out of my cassette copy for nearly 20 years, and then waited another 2 years for a CD...it's here, and it's about time. This is one terrific CD!

Emmylou live is always great but with the hot band (who were just that!)she is perfection. She always has the knack of picking a great song and making it hers. She does it here with some unexpected ones - Hillman/Parsons' Devil In Disguise, Neil Young's Long May You Run and believe it or not the Boss's Racing in the Street. If you have never heard Emmylou live you could do a lot worse than check out this excellent CD.

I remember hearing this album for the first time on an AM station while I was driving from Ft Knox, KY to Indianapolis, IN. The station played the whole abum and before I got home I stopped and brought it, and I have been a devoted fan of Emmylou Harris every since. Through her influence I have also discovered many other non-main stream country artists and my rock albums and cd's mostly collect dust.
This is simply a fantastic CD and if you like Emmylou Harris you will not be disappointed.
