| | Phoebe Snow Live CD Phoebe Snow Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Phoebe Snow has recorded very little since the 1980s, which is all the more reason to celebrate this 2008 live album. The singer's first in-concert recording, LIVE proves the singer still exercises a rich, dynamic command over her voice (so much so that one would never guess at her long-term absence from the scene). The set is packed with spectacular performances that cover an eclectic range of styles from blues to torch songs to pop, including, of course, her 1974 signature tune, "Poetry Man."
Personnel: Phoebe Snow (vocals, acoustic guitar); Roger Butterley (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin); John Korba (vocals, electric guitar, piano, keyboard); Fonzi Thornton (vocals); Jon Gilutin (Hammond b-3 organ, keyboard, percussion); Bob Glaub (bass instrument); Clint deGanon (drum, percussion).

Live Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Thank God She's Back! Finally, a 208 CD release from Phoebe. This is so long overdue. Ms. Snow has one of the most distinct singing voices of all time & I am thrilled with this CD. Yes, most of the songs, she has recorded on studio albums, but this is LIVE & Phoebe still sounds FABULOUS! I highly reccommend this wonderful edition to any music collection. Snow is still a "Natural Wonder"! Phoebe Snow possesses one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in pop of the last 40 years. Her new live album showcases her range and versatility as a singer, and her considerable songwriting gifts, too. Her original tunes "Natural Wonder", "The Other Girlfriend", and her huge 70's hit "Poetry Man" all given terrific live treatments, and as always Snow's voice can float, growl, shout, or reach into the stratosphere. Her covers are somewhat less successful, especially the final cut, a wan reading of the old standard "With a Song in My Heart." The CD's emotional highlight is "You're My Girl", a re-working of a 1989 Snow song, dedicated to her daughter Valerie-Rose, who died last year. This CD is a must-have for Snow fans, and a worthy introduction for newcomers to this prodigious vocal talent. Submitted by cdmmurphy (Boston, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Phoebe, Where Have You Been???? This album solidifies Phoebe as one of the best female vocalists in history, as well as a magnificent performer. Each song demands your 100% attention as she dazzles you with her voice and interpretations. He in-between banter is also insightful and fun. $14.35 AVALANCHE (1968) is not the most prominent record in the canon of folk-rock chameleon Eric Andersen--it did not even make the transfer to CD until 2007. However, this unjustly overlooked record stands as a perfect example of Andersen's unique skill at pouring himself into an extraordinary numbers of the folk world's far-off corners, ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Live
$16.02 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's ...

| | Billie Tarascio Send Me CD (2009)
Live
$16.45 Northwest Native Billie Tarascio was born and raised a cradle catholic in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon. Billie spent her childhood winning competitions, awards and generally wooing audiences with her remarkable vocal talent. She attended Roseburg high school where she participated in both athletics and choirs and finished high school in three years. Next she attended University of Oregon for college and finished her bachelor’s degree two and a half years later. Then in 2001, Billie discovered the use of contemporary music in mass due to Lifeteen, the international catholic youth ministry program. At that point, all of the vocal training and career aspirations of singing turned to ministry. She continued on to University of San Diego Law School, married her husband Tony and settled in Eugene, Oregon. She and Tony continued to be involved in lifeteen music ministry at St. Mary Parish in Eugene. Tony was eventually deployed with the Oregon National Guard to Iraq leaving Billie and her young son with another on the way. It was during this time of separation worry and grief that the songs on the album Send Me were born. Up until then she had never written music, and upon discovering she ...

$13.65 I WRITE CABARET AND THEATER SONGS HERE IN MY NATIVE NEW YORK CITY.My songs show the influence of my wide-ranging musical interests: Blues artists like Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters and Mississippi John Hurt; Jazz singers like Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald; Songwriters like Fats Waller, Kurt Weill and Harold Arlen; Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Joni Mitchell; as well as John Bucchino and Ricky Ian Gordon; all mixed up with a big dollop of modern classical music. “You do write some great stuff!” says veteran cabaret singer/piano player, Steve Ross. The mood of these songs is by turns funny, dark, passionate and open hearted. Singers who hear the songs want to use them in their shows and concerts. I DECIDED THAT IT WAS THE TIME FOR MORE PEOPLE TO GET TO HEAR MY SONGS. My musical director, Seth Weinstein, and I went into the studio and laid down piano and vocal tracks for 14 of my songs. The experience was surprisingly pleasant, easy and fun thanks to Seth’s superb musical supervision and to the advice, expertise and enthusiasm of engineer, Chip M. Fabrizi of PPI Recording, here in New York City.I am also writing a musical about a boy living in the Projects on New York’s Lower East Side who imagines that he is a beautiful princess. (Can’t imagine where I came up with that story…) Meanwhile, Seth and I are planning another cabaret act. Here’s what Steve Ross had to say about my last show:“A real revelation … you are SUCH a wonderfully communicative singer. You bring such heartfelt intelligence to everything you sing and say...”BIOPAUL BODDEN (the artist formerly known as Paul David Ross) is a native New Yorker of Jamaican and Polish-Jewish descent, which may or may not account for his “special” view of the world. He started playing guitar at age 9, beginning with folk music and later branching out to blues and jazz. After pursuing dual careers in graphic arts and acting, Paul thought the world would be a better place if he would write a musical about youth and childhood. So he enrolled himself at the Extension Division of the Mannes School of Music in Manhattan where he studied musical theory and composition. He also took piano lessons with Tardo Hammer and Hector Martignon.Paul has performed a solo cabaret act for many years for which he has often written special lyrics. He has recently started ...
