Phoebe Snow has recorded very little since the 1980s, which is all the more reason to celebrate this 2008 live album. The singer's first in-concert recording, LIVE proves the singer still exercises a rich, dynamic command over her voice (so ... Full Descriptionmuch so that one would never guess at her long-term absence from the scene). The set is packed with spectacular performances that cover an eclectic range of styles from blues to torch songs to pop, including, of course, her 1974 signature tune, "Poetry Man."

Phoebe Snow Live Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Thank God She's Back! Finally, a 208 CD release from Phoebe. This is so long overdue. Ms. Snow has one of the most distinct singing voices of all time & I am thrilled with this CD. Yes, most of the songs, she has recorded on studio albums, but this is LIVE & Phoebe still sounds FABULOUS! I highly reccommend this wonderful edition to any music collection. Snow is still a "Natural Wonder"! Phoebe Snow possesses one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in pop of the last 40 years. Her new live album showcases her range and versatility as a singer, and her considerable songwriting gifts, too. Her original tunes "Natural Wonder", "The Other Girlfriend", and her huge 70's hit "Poetry Man" all given terrific live treatments, and as always Snow's voice can float, growl, shout, or reach into the stratosphere. Her covers are somewhat less successful, especially the final cut, a wan reading of the old standard "With a Song in My Heart." The CD's emotional highlight is "You're My Girl", a re-working of a 1989 Snow song, dedicated to her daughter Valerie-Rose, who died last year. This CD is a must-have for Snow fans, and a worthy introduction for newcomers to this prodigious vocal talent. Submitted by cdmmurphy (Boston, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Phoebe, Where Have You Been???? This album solidifies Phoebe as one of the best female vocalists in history, as well as a magnificent performer. Each song demands your 100% attention as she dazzles you with her voice and interpretations. He in-between banter is also insightful and fun. $13.65 I WRITE CABARET AND THEATER SONGS HERE IN MY NATIVE NEW YORK CITY.My songs show the influence of my wide-ranging musical interests: Blues artists like Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters and Mississippi John Hurt; Jazz singers like Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald; Songwriters like Fats Waller, Kurt Weill and Harold Arlen; Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Joni Mitchell; as well as John Bucchino and Ricky Ian Gordon; all mixed up with a big dollop of modern classical music. “You do write some great stuff!” says veteran cabaret singer/piano player, Steve Ross. The mood of these songs is by turns funny, dark, passionate and open hearted. Singers who hear the songs want to use them in their shows and concerts. I DECIDED THAT IT WAS THE TIME FOR MORE PEOPLE TO GET TO HEAR MY SONGS. My musical director, Seth Weinstein, and I went into the studio and laid down piano and vocal tracks for 14 of my songs. The experience was surprisingly pleasant, easy and fun thanks ...
