| | Peter White Good Day CD (2009)
Sings For Playboys CD music
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in music, the more they inevitably stay the same -- and 2009 found White (like Montgomery 41, 42, and 43 years earlier) still struggling with a desire to improvise and a desire for mass acceptance (the thing that jazz, for the most part, lost after World War II). Of course, one doesn't necessarily rule out the another; the late saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. knew how to be commercial and adventurous at the same time, but most smooth jazz artists play it way too safe -- which is what White usually does on Good Day. This 2009 release is, on the whole, an ...

| | Frank Sinatra Classic Sinatra: His Greatest Performances 1953-1960 CD (2000)
Sings For Playboys songs
$10.29 Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Bob Norberg (Capitol Mastering).
Sinatra's years on the Capitol label (1953-60) were great years. His voice had matured into a powerful and poignant instrument; his sense of swing was infallible; and he was blessed with an innovative and sophisticated arranger, Nelson Riddle, whose charts fit Sinatra like a beautiful suit.
This one-disc compilation of 20 songs includes many classics: "I've Got You Under My Skin," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "The Lady Is a Tramp," In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning," and "One For My Baby (And One More For the Road)." The packaging is attractive (with some great photos of Sinatra) and the digital re-mastering ...

| | Boney James Boney's Funky Christmas CD (1996)
Sings For Playboys CD music
$7.19 Working with producer Paul Brown, Boney James' Boney's Funky Christmas is an entertaining set of loose, funky and bluesy interpretations of both classic Christmas carols ("The Christmas Song") and more obscure contemporary selections like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas." Two selections, "This Christmas" and "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?," are sung by Dee Harvey and Bobby Caldwell, respectively, but the star of this show remains James and his saxophone, who breathe new life into these holiday cuts. ~ Thom Owens

$19.39 JAIMY LYNN JAZZ & SWING VIOLINIST(516) 785-0682musikme2@optonline.netJaimy has been a dedicated and accomplished musician for over 30 years. At the age of 10, Jaimy Cohen began playing in The Youngstown Philharmonic Jr. Orchestra; their youngest member. Motivated to be a musician at this young age, Jaimy bartered with her violin instructor and provided babysitting services in return for receiving private violin lessons . . . and so began her musical journey. After graduating from high school, Jaimy auditioned for the U.S. Air Force Band and was accepted at Wright Patt Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. She later auditioned and was accepted for the Strolling Strings, the president's string ensemble - only to decline the appointment when an assignment in West Germany arose. In Europe, Jaimy toured with the Glenn Miller Band and she performed as the feature violinist and chimed in with her vocal talents as well with five part swinging harmonies, and her bassoon. She also studied privately with Michael Schwalbe', concertmaster of The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Some of her prominent accomplishments include playing for Presidents Ford and Carter, the London taping of Norman Lear's, "I Love America" accompanying Barbara Streisand, recording with Sud West ...
