My Turn music CDs. K-Tel immediately dated this compilation when they gave it its title, but the majority of the tracks on it have stood the test of time. As a snapshot of hip-hop circa 1992, it's hardly thorough (you'd need at least a couple filled-to-capacity discs for that), but it does serve up a rather diverse selection. Too Short's uncharacteristically raunch-free "I Want to Be Free (That's the Truth)," X-Clan's characteristically Afrocentric "Xodus," Eric B. & Rakim's "Don't Sweat the Technique" (the greatest track DJ Premier didn't produce), and Shabba Ranks' crossover hit "Mr. Loverman" give you some idea of the scope. Diamond D & the Psychotic Neurotics' "Best Kept Secret," Spice 1's "Welcome to the Ghetto," and Digital Underground's "No Nose Job" add further weight to the disc, but Snap's "Rhythm Is a Dancer" has absolutely no business being included. ~ Andy Kellman
Personnel: Too Short, Digital Underground, Eric B. & Rakim, Fu-Schnickens, Diamond and the Psychotic Neurotics, Main Source, Shabba Ranks, Snap!, Spice 1, X Clan, Zhigge (rap vocals).

My Turn music CDs. 2010 debut album from the British Indie quartet. Hailing from "the largest village in England" and brought up to work hard and play hard, Kill The Captains are an industrious bunch of buxom comrades. By day, the band runs its own recording studio and rehearsal facilities, Red Cloud and by night they promote their own indie-tastic and very successful club-night, Mutiny. Having debuted with their eponymous EP in 2008 and fresh from recent shows with Johnny Foreigner and Acoustic Ladyland, the band has developed into a ferocious live act with a burgeoning reputation for riotous performances. Fun Anxiety is steeped in elements of drone rock, new-wave pop, and suspense-filled Rock 'n' Roll, with shout-along choruses, fizzing dual-guitars and propulsive rhythmic skulduggery.
