Adam Rudolph Biography
As a teen, composer/percussionist Artist was mentored by the likes of Don Cherry, Fred Anderson, and Maulawi Nururdin. In 1977 he traveled to Ghana and met the famed griot Foday Musa Suso; a year later they formed the Mandingo Griot Society, pioneering a fusion of African music with jazz and R&B. In addition to appearing on sessions by Herbie Hancock and Jon Hassell, Rudolph collaborated extensively with Yusef Lateef. He debuted his own group, Moving Pictures, with a 1992 LP. In 1995, he premiered his first opera, The Dreamer. Rudolph issued two albums in 2010: Yèyí (with Ralph Jones) and Towards the Unknown (with Lateef). Rudolph was also a founding member of the multigenerational collective Build an Ark. ~ Jason Ankeny
