Charlie Louvin Biography
Until their split in 1963, Artist was one half of the popular country duo the Louvin Brothers alongside older brother Ira. Their hits included "Cash on the Barrelhead" and the 1959 country gospel album SATAN IS REAL. Following Ira's 1965 death, Louvin began a solo career, maintaining an impressive balance between the Nashville gentry (regularly appearing on the Grand Ol' Opry) and the renegade alt-country scene. In 2007, at the age of 80, Louvin signed with the alt-country label Tompkins Square Records and released a self-titled album of duets with acolytes like Elvis Costello, Will Oldham and George Jones.
